The English Schools Foundation was established by the Hong Kong Government in 1967. ESF currently operates five secondary schools, nine primary schools and a school for students with special educational needs across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Two all-through Private Independent Schools and five kindergartens are operated by ESF’s affiliated company, ESF Educational Services Limited (ESL), which also offers English language classes and sports activities.

Assessment and Data Lead

Responsibilities

To manage data collection across the foundation pertaining to attainment and achievement and to ensure accurate reporting of data to key stakeholders. The postholder will also provide line management for learning technology teaching staff and will ensure there is effective communication between ESF centre and schools regarding learning technology developments. Position will commence in August 2016.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • To manage data collection processes across the Foundation to ensure accurate and timely data results are available for all key stakeholders.
  • Lead a shared vision for the use of assessment data across the Foundation and establishing protocols for the appropriate use and sharing of data.
  • Have a deep understanding of all external assessment data that are currently being used and to be aware of and advise on best practice from across the world.
  • To provide data analysis and monitoring reports to ensure effective support and challenge processes are in place, this to include providing relevant data to support school self-improvement (and be a team member for school reviews)
  • Ensuring schools are prepared for external assessments and that data is stored systematically; advising on the display of data to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure school leaders and others have the up to date knowledge and skills to interpret assessment data via a high quality programme of CPD.
  • To manage other data collection processes e.g Stakeholder surveys, Student wellbeing surveys and to ensure results are collated and reported accurately
    • To liaise with the IBO, Examination Boards (and other external bodies/agencies) and ensure up to date and relevant knowledge around data collection is in place and to advise schools accordingly
  • To work in partnership with schools, curriculum group chairs and the Head of CPD in planning, co- development, delivering and evaluating professional development for teachers and school based support staff around the use of data
  • To contribute to the strategic development and work of the Education Development Team, including participation in school reviews, providing data for the education team as appropriate and supporting other projects that the Director of Education deems appropriate;

Lines of reporting

This role will be working as part of the Education department of ESF under the leadership of the Director of Education, direct line management to be via the Head of Achievement and Inclusion

Requirements

The position requires a knowledge and understanding of:

  • All ESF data collection processes associated with the IB Primary/Middle Years Programme, IB Diploma and Applied Pathways as well as iGCSE courses.
  • high quality learning, teaching and assessment in relation to education and be able to define it;
  •  inclusion and implementing a curriculum for students of a wide range of need;
  • school needs with regard to assessment data and the identification of associated professional development;

The position requires the ability to:

  • analyse data and use data to monitor, support and challenge schools in a positive manner
  • lead and work collaboratively with different groups of people;
  • demonstrate strategic and project management skills including resource budgeting
  • have effective communication skills,
    It will be further desirable if candidates for the position will be able demonstrate:
    • a knowledge and understanding of CIS/WASC processes for accreditation and or school evaluation processes;
    • an understanding of the effective use of learning technologies in schools and or in teachers’ professional development.
