What We Do

The Department of Education and Childcare is based at Quarry Hill Campus within the Cultural Quarter of Leeds. A blend of green scenery and modern architecture, Quarry Hill Campus boasts specialist childcare training resources, multi sensory provision, food technology suites, digital technology labs, state of the art hospitality equipment and industry standard studios and theatres. With cutting-edge facilities and schools that pride themselves on industry links, Quarry Hill is unrivalled in the region. The role will work closely with the Education and Childcare team to support students academically and emotionally to achieve their qualification. The department has over 25 staff working within it to support approximately 400 students. This is a meaningful and rewarding role where you have the opportunity to see your students progress through their chose study path and career, knowing that you have supported them along the way to achieve their potential.

What You Will Do

  • Primarily you will be based offsite visiting students in their work placement setting.
  • You will be responsible for a caseload of learners who require assessing whilst on work placement and hold professional discussions at college as part of their planned learning programme.
  • Managing your diary efficiently to ensure timely visits and reviews are conducted
  • Support learners to track and monitor progress towards achievement using assessment grades. Organise and maintain documentation on learners' progress.
  • Provide support for learners, using on-line support technology and education platforms.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians of learners to support retention and achievement.
  • Identify where learners require an intervention and give appropriate support.
  • Develop and agree individual learning plans, identify SMART targets and set aspirational goals for learners, liaising with subject specialists and other academic and support staff.

Your Profile

  • An excellent communicator, confident and able to build an engaging learning relationship with students to motivate them to achieve to the best of their ability.
  • Knowledge and understanding about the role of teaching assistants and early years practitioners. Ability to work independently using own initiative whilst visiting work placements, remote working and college based working.
  • A passion and ability to inspire and motivate young people to become our future education and childcare workforce.
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs.
  • Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of employers and work placement teams. Has a can-do attitude to all tasks and responsibilities.
  • Flexible to meet workload.
  • Ability to use technology to upload, track and record students’ progress.
