This is a really exciting time for DCS Schools in Cyprus. The opening of Queen Berengaria Primary School in January 2023 is the first phase in a programme that will see all of our schools either rebuilt or developed to provide safe, exceptional, modern facilities where our children can thrive and enjoy high quality education provision delivered by valued, motivated and innovative staff.

Job Description

The key purpose of the role is to:

Work with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver the DCS vision, aims and objectives through inspirational and motivational leadership, clear strategic direction, demanding and measurable targets and supporting development plans.

Develop and implement the educational strategy within Cyprus to secure agreed values, curriculum principles and organisational behaviours.

Work with senior colleagues at all levels, challenging, motivating and empowering them to ensure that children’s progress and educational achievements meet national expectations as a minimum but also seek to attain ambitious outcomes that maximise the educational and personal development of pupils and meet the demands of the wider communities we serve.

Lead a team of dedicated school improvement professionals and school senior leaders in the development and delivery of a school improvement function that is built upon evidence-based practice.

Support and secure delivery of excellent teaching and learning throughout schools and setting in Cyprus through the promotion of high-level professional standards, and exact monitoring and evaluation of teaching quality and pupils’ achievement.

Develop a culture of personal responsibility, recognising excellence and implementing strategies to address under performance, including an effective system of professional development.

Person Specification

The post holder will be required to hold Qualified teacher status and the following essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Successful record as an Executive Headteacher, Principal or Head teacher.
  • Experience of working across multiple key stages with the knowledge and competence to evaluate the educational provision in EYFS from 0- 5 years and the National Curriculum from 5 – 19 years.
  • Experience of developing and then implementing strategies and plans to deliver educational excellence across multiple schools and settings, ensuring they are compliant with policy and operate with efficient financial management.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of, and commitment to, good practice in safeguarding, equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion.

The following are desirable:

  • National Professional Qualification for Headship
  • National Leader of Education Status
  • Evidence of further relevant professional studies.
  • Experience of leading/managing complex/multiple organisations or trusts and sites.
  • Experience of Academy leadership

DCS HQ Cyprus is situated within the Episkopi Garrison in Cyprus. The Garrison has military housing with the vast majority of teaching staff living on base. On base, you will find shops, a cafe, a cinema, an amenities centre, gym and swimming pool. Cyprus has much to offer and enjoys a Mediterranean climate. The scenery throughout the island is beautiful with a wide array of beaches (many home to sea turtles) and luxury resort hotels alongside a vast number of historical and religious sites. The Troodos Mountains have a ski resort open in the winter months.
