About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Dean of Academic Studies to bring their expertise and provide operational leadership of the College’s academic activity across A Level, GCSE and science, business, and accounting programmes, taking into consideration the social, economic, and educational context of the Liverpool City Region.


Working closely with the Dean of Academic Studies, Deputy Head of School for English and Deputy Head of School for Maths, you will head up the effective planning, development and delivery of a diverse and responsive curriculum within the A Level and GCSE study programmes, effectively meeting student, higher education, employer and key stakeholder demand.

You’ll have confidence in developing and implementing a range of personal development and progression opportunities that will successfully promote students’ confidence and provide a strong trajectory into higher education, further education, training, or employment.

You will implement strategies that build upon lessons learnt from the ‘pandemic years’, to take the best parts of a blended learning approach to support catch up learning, reinforcement and stretch and challenge of all our learners. You will be responsible for implementing strategies that provide meaningful mitigations for the effect of lost learning during national and local lockdowns.

Supporting the development and implementation of the College’s teaching, learning and assessment strategy, you will lead and support pedagogical leadership with regards to GCSE, English and maths and A Level best practice within a supportive framework for all colleagues in their ongoing development as inspirational teaching professionals, leading to outstanding student outcomes and progression.

You will be results driven with the ability to drive high expectations and high performance consistently across the College’s academic programmes to secure its position as ‘best in class’ in both curriculum delivery and support for learners.

As the Assistant Dean of Academic Studies, from time to time, the successful candidate will be required to step in for the Dean of Academic Studies and must have confidence in supporting the College in meeting the strategic goal of turning disadvantage to advantage.


What you’ll need

As a member of the leadership team, you will be a positive role model and ambassador for the College with the proven ability to challenge, mentor and coach. You will be a developer of a high-performance culture, intolerant of underperformance and possess a track record of securing buy-in and support through constructive challenge.

You’ll have a passion for delivering consistent success and be resilient and comfortable with ambiguity. The ability to operate under pressure in a fast-paced, evolving environment is a must, along with a desire to support and inspire others to do the same.

You’ll have a robust knowledge of research-informed approaches to addressing disadvantage and supporting learners to succeed and can develop pedagogical approaches in academic curriculum that support all learners to succeed and thrive. You’ll possess a commitment to addressing the impact of bias, discrimination, and injustice through a proactive approach to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

With a professional or teaching qualification and relevant experience, you will offer proven, consistent delivery of success as the accountable person for improving student outcomes over consecutive years.

Opened in 1992 after being formed from a number of colleges in the city we now have 5 locations situated in the heart of Liverpool. Currently the college serves more than a third of all 16-18 year olds in Liverpool, and educates almost 12,000 learners a year. In 2018 the college achieved a pass rate of 99.6% beating the national average of 97.6% for a-level results. Within this year as well we had a 100% pass rate in modern languages.

However, the college itself is not just facts and figures. The mission statement of provide high quality skills and education by delivering opportunities for growth to all people and business of the Liverpool City region, shows inclusivity and a community understanding. The ease in which to get here helps quite a lot to. Be it driving, buses, trains or even a ferry you are never short of options. 

Being that working/living in Liverpool does offer a wide range of experiences to have. Historical buildings like the Bombed out church, Royal court theatre house or even a hidden gem like the Bluecoat School lane which boasts being the oldest building in Liverpool. The Beatles museum is a popular place to explore the band and possible find bits out about them you might not have known. Or if just unwinding and relaxing there are multiple pubs/bars, restaurants, and comedy nights to enjoy.
