Job overview

When it comes to education provision, Bury has a lot to shout about. The proportion of our children attending good or outstanding schools is one of the highest in the North West; no schools are in an Ofsted category; we have a strong tradition of collaboration within a ‘family of schools’ approach; and Bury is leading on the education elements of the Greater Manchester devolution agenda.

However, we know that the next few years will bring plenty of challenges, not least the likely move to academy status for many of our schools. Our new Assistant Director for Learning and Culture will therefore need to maintain our strong links with schools within a changing environment. We are determined to continue to support our schools as we move away from a traditional ‘school improvement’ approach, and maintain a culture of collaboration and partnership – and you will be at the forefront of that.

The remit of the role also encompasses our libraries and museums, giving you variety and breadth as well as career development opportunities. In addition, it will give you the chance to work on a regional level as the Greater Manchester devolution agenda gathers momentum.

We are therefore looking for candidates with senior leadership experience in a children’s services setting (as well as some teaching experience) who can develop strong relationships with multiple partners as well as lead the modernisation and development of our services. It is a great opportunity for you to really make a name for yourself as well as have a real impact on the lives of thousands of children and young people in Bury.

For more information please see www.buryleadership.com or contact our advising consultants Luke Judd on 0113 205 6077 or Penny Keatings on 0113 205 6292.

Closing date: 19th February 2016
