Job overview

Music at Brambletye School

Here at Brambletye we love and are passionate about all things music, it plays a huge and important part in our pupil’s time with us from Nursery through to Year 8 and our pupils are incredibly lucky to benefit from a well-equipped and dedicated space to enable them to learn and be inspired.  All our pupils receive at least one class music lesson each week and are taught a wide and diverse music curriculum from film music, to samba music to programme music through to music theory and everything in-between.  Accessibility and inclusivity are key factors to our music curriculum…...as well as making lots of noise, being creative and having lots of fun!

For our more musically gifted and talented pupils there is the opportunity to be challenged and stretched to reach their full musical potential and the School has an enviable track record of securing music scholarships to a range of senior schools.

A large proportion of our pupils also receive at least one instrumental or vocal music lesson per week and the School is extremely proud of its popular and thriving extra-curricular music activities which include three choirs, two orchestras, a very large concert band and a brass ensemble.

Concerts and performances are a huge part of the music life at Brambletye that include high profile events such as the Carol Service, Christmas Nativity, House Music Competitions, Harvest Festival and the biennial senior musical.

The Assistant Director of Music Role

We are looking for an exceptional, talented and accomplished musician who is capable of providing outstanding learning experiences as a teacher and to support our Director of Music in leading an ambitious Music programme to stretch and challenge out most able musicians, whilst encouraging and fostering a culture of musical enjoyment for all.

The successful candidate will be required to teach class music lessons to a wide age and ability range of pupils as well as support the Music Department in all aspects of co-curricular activities e.g. lead weekly instrumental/orchestral/choral rehearsals ensembles, accompany ABRSM examinations, support the organisation of daily instrumental lessons by Visiting Music Teachers, assist with music performances for concerts, musical shows, Chapel services and school events as and when required.

This position provides a wonderful opportunity to work in a school that loves, enjoys and celebrates music, with highly motivated pupils, small classes and with very supportive colleagues, management and parents.

Hours, Salary and Benefits

This is a part-time position and it is anticipated that this role will be three days per week during term-time with the hours and days of work to be discussed at interview.

Brambletye is one of the country's leading co-educational prep schools, with 270 boys and girls currently on the roll.  It was founded at Sidcup Place, Kent in 1919 and moved to its present glorious location in rolling Sussex countryside on the southern outskirts of East Grinstead in 1933. The large country house, in its own wooded estate of 100 acres, overlooks Ashdown Forest and Weir Wood Reservoir. The school became a charitable trust with a board of Governors fifty years later, in 1969. The School has evolved from being a small, all boys boarding school to its present position as a co-educational day and boarding school. Boys and girls continue to go on to many of the leading independent schools in the country, such as King’s Canterbury, Benenden, Charterhouse, Marlborough, Eton, Winchester, Stowe and Lancing .
