Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic sports teacher who will inspire the children to enjoy participating in all physical education and competition.  The ability to be a form teacher to a Year 3 or 4 class will also be essential. The post will be for an initial one year fixed term. 

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

These duties are not intended to be comprehensive and other tasks and projects will be undertaken at the request of the Head. 

(1) ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SPORT:

• Foster a love of playing Hockey, Netball and Cricket – these sports have traditionally been played by girls at LPH, but in recent terms we have moved towards a co-ed Games option each term

• Organise fixtures for the above named sports within the local Prep School circuit

• Contribute to the wider love of Games / PE through inspiring teaching and creating opportunities for all children to participate, introducing minor sports to lessons and the fixtures programme

• Liaise with other HoDs to develop cross-curricular opportunities, including trips and on-site events

• Alongside the Director of Sport, monitor the departmental budget; manage and develop departmental resources

(2) KS2 FORM TEACHER (YEAR 3 / 4)

• Set and maintain good standards of discipline and behaviour inside and outside the classroom, encouraging the children to be kind and thoughtful people

• Plan, present and mark work in a professional manner and in accordance with school policies

• Encourage pupils to develop lively, enquiring minds

• Promote an attitude of ‘delving deeper’ to further children’s knowledge and understanding, to develop their love of learning, and to foster a sense of independent enquiry

• Have pastoral responsibility for a form; this also includes supervision of form time, the delivery of PSHE, liaison with parents and form reports

• Encourage and maintain good communication with parents of children in that form, alongside the parents of all pupils you teach

• Perform break, lunch, and prep duties as part of the staff duty rota

• Maintain a happy working environment in the classroom, including displays and working walls

• Play a full role in the extra-curricular life of the school, including after school clubs 

• Organise appropriate educational visits

• Cover classes for absent colleagues as required

• Actively support the marketing function of the school

• Liaise with Director of Studies over curricular/academic concerns regarding pupils

• Liaise with the Deputy Head over pastoral/behavioural concerns regarding pupils

• Liaise with the SENCO over concerns relating to SEN or EAL pupils

• Liaise with the AGT coordinator relating to more able or talented pupils

• Represent the school at area IAPS subject meetings when required

• Keep up to date with educational issues and be prepared to attend in service training as require

• Be an excellent role model for the pupils

• Fully support the ethos and aims of the school

• Ensure full knowledge and compliance with school policies

• Complete any other tasks which the Head reasonably requests of you

Skills and Qualifications

• Graduate and / or qualified teacher

• Inspirational classroom practitioner

• Good understanding of independent schools and their rationale

• Good manner with parents

• Evidence of CPD

• Commitment shown in other areas, eg games, drama

• Good communication skills

• Strong organisational skills 

• Experience of teaching Games up to Year 8, and of core subjects at KS2

• Commitment and passion for teaching in general and sport          specifically

• Resourcefulness and flexibility

• Desire to be fully involved in the life of the school

• Ability to lead from the front and by example

• Ability to see task through to completion
