JOB DESCRIPTION – ASSISTANT HEAD (CURRICULUM)

The Line Manager for this post is the Deputy Head (Staff).

TIMETABLE AND OPTIONS

To lead the Timetable Team, with guidance from the Deputy Head (Academic) - being responsible for  writing the College timetable, including the use of rooms. 

To maintain the timetable throughout the school year, ensuring it is up to date and reflects any changes in staffing, rooms or lesson placement.

To use SIMS in order to allocate all students to their correct classes and to ensure the data use from SIMS and Microsoft Teams remain accurate throughout the year.

To provide the Deputy Head (Academic) with information on any room changes and, when required, to publish this for all staff.

To create a timeline for options processes for the year, which is disseminated to SLT, HoDs, relevant HoYs and is aligned to the assessment and reporting structure for the year. Also to lead in the creation and amendment of First Year and Second Year Language choices, Third Year option choices (arts and technologies), GCSE and A Level subject choice. To ensure that the option information for parents and students at all levels is amended and checked annually and subsequently sent out to them.

To design and implement an A Level Taster Day for Fifth Year students.

To be responsible for maintaining an accurate record of student choices of optional subjects at GSCE, A Level and Lower School Languages plus Third Year options. 

To provide curriculum data and staffing requirements for the Head and SLT to enable strategic planning and decision making. 

DIGITAL LEARNING

In all aspects, work closely with the Head of IT to develop and utilise technology for the benefit of students and teaching staff.

Play a leading role in the development and delivery of the College’s IT/Digital Strategy.

Research and promote the use of proven technology to enhance teaching and learning across the College.

Inspire and guide staff in improving digital literacy.  

To be a member of the SGW IT Strategy Committee and to Chair when required. 

To be a member of the College IT Forum.

Working closely with the Systems & Data Manager, to develop the College MIS (currently SIMS) within this [timetabling and digital learning] area of responsibility.

OTHER

To assist with cover arrangements. 

To appraise one HoD and contribute to the appraisal of staff within the timetabling team.

To assist in the promotion of the College at evening events at local feeder schools.

To attend meetings of the SMT and SLT when required. 

To contribute to new staff induction. 

To teach a reduced timetable.

Benefits of living and working in Weybridge

Weybridge is a small popular town with a good selection of branded and independent shops, great places to eat and beautiful woodlands and canal walks. Weybridge station offers at least four trains an hour taking only 29 minutes to reach London Waterloo station.

The College is situated on the outskirts of Weybridge on an attractive 100-acre site conveniently close to the intersection of the M3 and M25 motorways and just 20 minutes from Heathrow airport.

Academics

There are over 130 teaching staff in the College with an equal split of men and women, and some staff live on campus. Rachel Owens is the incumbent Headmistress, and she and the College are members of HMC and CISC.

The school has a selective entry and is oversubscribed. The majority of children join in First Year (Year 7), although there is a smaller entry into Third Year (Year 9) and the Sixth Form (Lower Sixth). Where space allows, new students may also arrive out of these usual intakes into Second, Third and Fourth Years.

New staff and induction

There is strong support for new teaching staff starting at the College, with an extensive induction programme. Newly appointed staff are encouraged to visit in the Summer Term to receive training and guidance from the Head of Department prior to the beginning of their employment. In addition, the College offers support and on-going training for newly qualified teaching staff lead by Mr Andy Cornick, Deputy Head (Operations) who is responsible for the welfare of new staff. There is an active and social Common Room committee and a broad range of teaching staff, many who have depth of experience and knowledge of St George’s from several years with us. QTS induction is facilitated.

All the teaching staff receive excellent support from business staff: the Bursar directs over 120 College employees including administration, IT, finance and catering. The annual appraisal scheme encourages staff to develop their careers and supports them in identifying training or study to assist in their development as teachers.
