Job overview

Position Overview

We are looking to recruit  English first language speaking teachers for all subjects, able to teach Cambridge Key Stage 2, 3, IGCSE and A’ level programmes, who enjoy running co-curricular activities and believe education is best pursued holistically. We are also looking for colleagues to act as boarding parents who will either receive extra compensation or a reduced teaching load or a combination of the two.

Candidate Overview

An experienced Assistant Head of Boarding is needed to work with the Head of Boarding and Senior School to shape and lead the weekly boarding and extended day provision we will be offering to our grade 7-10 students from September 2020 onwards. We will be setting up the boarding along the lines of Bromsgrove School UK. The successful candidate will lead a team of boarding parents and be responsible for between 50-90 weekly boarders (depending on how many opt for weekly boarding). Outstanding work ethic, knowledge, kindness and a sense of humour come top of the list of traits for this role.

School Instruction

Bromsgrove School Mission Hills (BMH) is growing academically, holistically and numerically and therefore needs to recruit excellent teachers who are committed to helping our bi-lingual work hard play hard pupils to be the best they can be.

By September 2020 we will have pupils from KG to Senior 8, that is, 3 year olds – 14 year olds. Over the next few years we will fill up the Senior School following a Cambridge Pathways curriculum blended with the Chinese Directorate of Education Curriculum to ensure our pupils achieve well in Chinese Compulsory Education (Prep 1-Senior 9) and Cambridge IGCSEs (Senior 10) and Cambridge A’ levels (Senior 12). Our mission is to provide every pupil with the opportunity to progress to their university of choice wherever that may be. The school puts great emphasis on excellence whether it be in academic subjects, sports, art, music or drama.

Our pupils follow a blended bilingual programme with English first language teachers and Chinese bi-lingual teachers in every class in the Pre-School (KG 1, 2 and 3) and the Prep-Junior School (Prep 1, Prep 2 and Prep 3).  Following the successful model of excellence of our partner school, Bromsgrove School UK, from Prep 4 onwards pupils are taught by subject specialists following our blended curriculum. Chinese, Mathematics and Morality are taught using Chinese language. Humanities, Music and Musical Theatre use a blend of English and Chinese. Science, Computer Science, Design Technology, Art and PE are taught in English. As we progress to IGCSE and A’ levels the pupils increasingly study in English in order to ensure they are well prepared for IGCSE examinations where the language used is English. Nevertheless, we still keep their Chinese language skills strong.

Situated in the world class Mission Hills Gold Resort of Mission Hills we have unparalleled sports partnerships which means as well as pursuing traditional sports such as athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, football, netball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, etc we have partnerships with specialist world class providers in Golf, Tennis, Footballand Ice Skating which enable us to provide elite level programmes in these sports. From September 2020 we will add a 2nd cohort of PGA BMH Student Athletes pursuing a Cambridge IGCSE programme of English, Maths, Chinese, Biology, Chemistry and Physics with a view to securing a US University place on a golf scholarship by the end of Senior 12. This is the first of a number of such specialist sports programmes we intend to offer.

For Senior 7 onwards and PGA student athletes we run an extended day and provide weekly boarding. This enables us to ensure these students have a healthy work life balance with plenty of sport, enrichment and supervised study each day to complement their formal daytime curriculum.

Location

The school is nestled on the edge of the lush oasis of the Mission Hills resort, the largest Golf Resort in the world, with green spaces available for students and staff in which to learn and play, amenities and entertainment options a few minutes walk away, an Eco Park and mountain trails nearby, beaches less than an hour away and Hong Kong Island just 2 hours from our door.
