Job overview

Elton High School are looking to recruit an Assistant Head of Design Technology to cover the resignation of the recent post holder.

We require an enthusiastic and well qualified Teacher of Design Technology (Food Technology specialism) you will join a strong and supportive department that is dedicated to raising the achievement and progress of all students. The salary for this post will Teachers’ Pay Range £23,720 - £39,406 plus TLR2a per annum.

The Elton High School is a significantly oversubscribed School with a tradition of excellence.  We have a history of high achievement and our most recent Year 11 results (2018) had headline figures of 53% (5+ incl Eng/Maths), with average Attainment8 of 49.5 and Progress8 figures over the past three years of 0.09, 0.36 and 0.28.  These figures placed us as the highest performing school in Bury LA and amongst the top proportion of schools in the country.

Last year’s Ofsted inspection (February 2017) was a fair and accurate analysis of the fantastic progress made by the school in the past couple of years. The inspection team noted that there is "a culture of high expectations" across the school with "high quality training" enabling teachers to provide top quality lessons as a matter of routine, with staff "focused on improving outcomes for all pupils". The inspectors were particularly impressed with the climate for learning and behaviour of our students, describing Elton as "an orderly and calm place to learn" with students who "enjoy coming to school", are "proud of their school" and are "confident in their learning". Further to this, in September 2016 we moved into a brand new school building – the first new secondary school building in Bury for many decades, which further reinforces the excitement surrounding our school community.

The progress that has been made across the school is not through chance or by accident, but is due to a relentless focus on teaching and learning, while developing the talents of an outstanding team of staff.

This particular role will be critical in moving the school further forwards and building on recent achievements.  Achievement of SEN students has improved in recent years but we cannot become complacent and need to develop our provision further, making full use of all available resources whilst meeting the statutory requirements for appropriate SEN provision.

This is undoubtedly a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate impact in a key area, enabling Elton to realise its potential as one of the very best schools in the Greater Manchester area.

The school has excellent transport links with the M60, M61, M62 and M66 Motorways crisscrossing the area plus the Metro link Light Rapid Transit system with a fast and frequent service from Bury centre through Manchester city centre to East Didsbury.

This School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the DBS.
