Job Description

The Assistant Head of Faculty (AHoF) will:

• work with the Deputy Head, Head of Faculty and subject teachers to create and continually evaluate and

develop a high quality fully integrated curriculum

• work with other leaders to ensure a continuous learning programme across grades

• develop a scheme of work with clearly indicated resource options and activities to deliver vibrant bilingual

teaching and learning

• support the collection and preparation of documents and data for compliance checks by the EDB and other

government authorities, as appropriate and requested by the Deputy Head (Development)

• take responsibility for the up-dating, sharing and safety of teaching resources, so that they are readily and

easily available for any current, new or cover teachers

• oversee the provision of cover work and online resources for all students unable to be present in school

• observe subject teachers in the classroom and provide face-to-face and written post-observation feedback

and targets to meet, and then exceed, the teachers’ standards, as set out in the school policy

• mentor teachers in the Faculty undertaking professional development, including PDQ and QTS etc.

• support and challenge colleagues to aspire to excellence in their teaching, classroom arrangements

and behaviour management, providing focused intervention, as required

• take a leading role in the development of research projects to continually improve the standards of

teaching and learning in the subject(s) and across Faculties

• support the preparation and delivery of trial classes for Open Days and other marketing events

• contribute to the planning and delivery of exciting and challenging trips and enrichment activities

• oversee the writing, proofreading, marking, moderation and reporting of regular assessments

• check and verify examination entries, moderation and submission of coursework, as appropriate

• assist students in preparation for overseas transfers and further study

• work with other teachers and the Learning Support Department to provide support for students with SEND

• help to identify and provide opportunities for students ready for academic challenges and extension

• assist in the management of budgets so that resources are ordered, shared and used efficiently

• contribute to the appraisal of staff and ensure the sharing of best practice between teachers

• keep accurate records of meetings, training, issues and incidents

• support the celebration and promotion of successes and initiatives through written and oral presentations

• collaborate with colleagues in our sister schools and with external experts and partners, as requested

• play an active role in the full life of this busy boarding school

• pay due regard to the cultural complexities of international education

• attend Faculty and other committees as required

• teach approximately 85% FTE timetable, after agreement with the Head Master

• receive a Position of Responsibility allowance

• carry out any reasonable duties requested by the Head Master

Required Skills and Qualifications

The Assistant Head of Faculty (AHoF) will have:

• a full understanding of the benefits of a fully integrated bilingual curriculum

• strong belief in holistic education

• have or be working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent

• excellent spoken and written English

• excellent IT, communication and interpersonal skills

• the ability to motivate and collaborate well with others

• flexibility, good humour, patience and a calm approach to negotiations

• integrity, high level of confidentiality and sensitivity
