Post: Assistant Head of Progress and Welfare (Behaviour & Security)

Hours & Weeks: 37 hours per week, term time only (35 weeks a year with flexibility to increase dependent on college needs) 

Designation: Support Staff Contract 

Starting Salary: Sixth Form Support Staff Scale point 30-32 £23,615 - £25,193(Pro rata equivalent is £17,180 - £18,328) 

Responsible to: Head of Progress and Welfare

Purpose: To take operational responsibility for the management of student behaviours around and beyond the College, as well as being a first point of contact with students, parents and partners in this respect. The post holder is required to manage and develop a team to promote a positive culture, and to ensure the wider welfare, safety and positive behaviour of students is prioritised in line with relevant college values, expectations and processes.  

Key Duties:

• To line manage and coordinate the work of members of the team, as appropriate and/or directed. 

• Providing an appropriate day-to-day rota for relevant student supervisors and team members, linking this where appropriate to an evaluation of vulnerable areas of the college. 

• To promote positive behaviour on the College campus and surrounding area, taking a lead and communicating with stakeholders internally and externally, as appropriate. 

• To act as Duty Officer and the key point of contact for issues of student management during the college day, including being the lead officer for college wide behavioural referrals or incidents and ensuring these are systematically followed up. 

• To ensure all reporting procedures and communications are completed fully and in a timely way in respect of referrals or incidents  

• To actively promote student punctuality and attendance, supporting college strategies as appropriate in these areas. 

• Oversight and monitoring of the college CCTV system and to ensure its effective and appropriate use in monitoring student behaviour. 

• To promote a positive, safe and welcoming environment ethos, including enforcing the wearing of IDs by staff, students and all visitors within the college. 

• To support relevant staff and managers in planning and implementing student interventions and agreed actions in respect of college wide conduct and behaviour 

• Build and promote positive relationships with stakeholders, including staff, the wider student body, parents and external organisations. 

• Contribute to the development and implementation of training or briefings relating to behaviour, safety and security, including to ensure all staff and student knowledge is up to date at all times. 

• Coordinate as appropriate, the College’s arrangements or responses to ensure the ongoing security, health and safety of students, staff and other stakeholders, including any additional arrangements for special events, or in relation to any incident  

• Monitor for new/changing risks in respect to maintaining positive behaviours, safety and welfare of our students.  

• To work with the Head of Progress & Welfare and to deputise, where appropriate, in order to ensure the effectiveness of the student progress and welfare function at all times.
