Job overview
We are looking for an Assistant Head of School (AH) to join the Senior Leadership Team at Hawley Primary School. The right candidate will be an expert practitioner with high ambition for our pupils and the drive to ensure that every child has the teaching and provision they need to thrive. The successful candidate will join Hawley at an exciting time, one year into a partnership with Eleanor Palmer Primary School. The skills to collaborate, to share and enact a vision will therefore be essential to this role.
Ideally, the right candidate will also take the lead with inclusion and for pupils with special educational needs (SEN). They will work closely with the Head of School in order to drive standards for all pupils and will be instrumental to the smooth running of the school.

Aims of the role
- To raise standards and equity of opportunity for all children, removing barriers to learning, being research informed and a champion for our pupils.
- To support the Head of School in developing and implementing the strategic direction of the school in partnership with the Executive Heads, Governing Body and staff.
- To ensure the inclusion of all pupils within our diverse community.
- To lead, manage and coordinate the provision for children with special educational needs, disabilities and other vulnerable pupils.
Key leadership responsibilities
- To assist the Head of School in the leadership and management of the school and in all aspects of school improvement.
- To take full responsibility for leading and managing significant aspects of the school, under the overall direction of the Head of School.
- To carry out teaching duties, as required, in accordance with teachers’ standards as well as the school’s policies and procedures.
- To act as Designated or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, as agreed.
- To play an active role in setting aims and objectives for the school, monitoring and evaluating the impact, and formulating the School Development Plan.
- To provide effective leadership and management to the team/teams of staff as agreed with the Head of School.
- To take on subject leadership as agreed, playing an active role in the development of our curriculum.
- To induct Early Career Teachers and new members of staff, including temporary staff, providing ongoing support and training.
- To liaise with external professionals relating to pupils’ provision, and to monitor this provision.
- To support the Head of School in monitoring pupil progress, setting ambitious targets and working with class teams to adjust provision and focus as needed.
- To coordinate the training and professional development of staff in high quality, inclusive provision, including supporting colleagues in adaptive practice.
- To support the leadership team in the development and implementation of policies.
- To liaise with the relevant governors and contribute to Governing Body meetings.
- To contribute to the pastoral care of all pupils and maintain high standards of behaviour in our school.

Conditions of Service
Governed by the National Agreement on Teachers’ Pay and Conditions, supplemented by local conditions as agreed by the governors. This job description is subject to regular review.
