Job overview

Assistant Head of Science (TLR2C)

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Head of Science to join the school for September 2020. The role would suit an existing Head of Subject seeking a new challenge or an experienced Science teacher wishing to make that first step into middle leadership.

Our successful Science Department consists of a team of thirteen teachers and three technicians.  Within this team we have three physics specialists, four chemistry specialists and six biology specialists. The science leadership team consists of the Head of Science, and three Assistant Heads of Science that have traditionally taken a lead role in each subject: Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  The advertised role would ideally suit a candidate with a Physics specialism but we would equally welcome applications from other scientists as the leadership element of this role is flexible and may focus on overseeing science at KS3 or taking a lead in Physics.

The successful candidate will work with the wider science leadership team and specifically the Head of Science to develop the whole science department and will also take a lead in either Physics or Science at KS3.

We are also looking for someone who has high aspirations for our students, our staff and a commitment to their own continued professional development too.

This is an extremely exciting time to join our team as the school has gone from strength to strength over recent years and we are committed to ensuring this upward trajectory continues over the coming years. It is anticipated the successful candidate will play a significant role in our ongoing journey of school improvement and I hope you are excited about the opportunity this role presents and I look forward to reading your application.

Mr. Chris Coole BA(Hons), PGCE, NPQH
Head Teacher

About St Ninian's High School

St. Ninian’s High School is recognised as a very good school already, but we continue to strive to improve the education provided for our students.
Learning is at the core of School’s ethos and our students are provided with the opportunity to be able to concentrate on their studies, to seek and receive help, to broaden their knowledge and to develop the skills which they will need later in life.
Students have extensive use of our excellent resources and facilities. We are also fortunate to have very high quality teaching and support staff. At the same time our students are encouraged to do their best in a pleasant and supportive atmosphere where, hopefully, they will gain the confidence and self-esteem necessary to enable them to succeed.
