Job overview

Applications are welcomed for the position of Assistant Head at North London Collegiate School, Jeju. Working closely with the the Vice Principal (Pastoral), you will ensure the school continues to provide the very best pastoral care for all our students in the Senior School.

The school opened its doors in 2011, established in partnership between North London Collegiate School, UK and the South Korean government. The school – with its excellent outcomes, dedicated staff and world-class facilities - has proven to be an extremely popular choice with parents and developed its Junior school in response to heavy demand for places. GCSE and IB results are formidable and students matriculate to some of the best universities in the world. It is an exceptional education based on high academic standards and a deep commitment to providing a well-rounded education. Excellent pastoral care is at the heart of the school vision, making this an extremely important position.

In making this appointment, your attributes and attitude will be as importantly valued as your skills and experience. You will be emotionally intelligent, have a clear philosophy for developing best practice pastoral care and will share our ethos and values. You may have forged your career in a boarding context; however, whatever your professional background, you will show a genuine passion for pastoral care with a commitment to ensuring that every child receives the support they need to fulfil their potential. That will be your mission. You will be a key member of the team embedding outstanding support through our boarding provision, line-managing housemasters and housemistresses. You will join a great team. We take great care to build high-performing teams and often assign duties in line with your particular area of expertise or interest.

The school is set in a striking location. Jeju Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, 130km off the southern coast of the Korean peninsula, is often described as one of Asia’s best kept secrets. With its temperate climate, stunning natural scenery, array of rare and endangered wildlife and welcoming beaches, it is a fascinating and breathtaking environment in which to live.

We provide first-class professional development both through NLCS Jeju and the established NLCS educational community. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a leading international school in a strategically important role in which you will make a vital contribution.

NLCS Jeju was the first NLCS International School to open its doors in 2011. It is located on the island of Jeju, in South Korea, but its proud heritage is from the United Kingdom, where in 1850 education pioneer Frances Mary Buss established the North London Collegiate School.

In just a few years NLCS Jeju has earned a reputation as one of the most prestigious and successful schools in East Asia. IB Diploma results are outstanding and the school’s graduates are attending some of the world’s leading universities, including Oxbridge and Ivy League colleges.

In keeping with the NLCS philosophy, the curriculum is aspirational and provides significant academic challenge for students. Students sit iGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11 and follow the IB Diploma Programme through Years 12 and 13.

NLCS Jeju offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package including accommodation, flights, health insurance and free places at the school for teachers’ children.

Location

The school is located on the picturesque island of Jeju, in South Korea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also the first international school to be opened as part of the Global Education City on Jeju Island, which is becoming the centre of English education in Korea and the pre-eminent educational hub of Asia.

Jeju Island, 130km off the southern coast of the Korean peninsula, is often described as one of Asia’s best-kept secrets. Jeju’s temperate climate, natural scenery and beaches make it a popular tourist destination for South Koreans as well as visitors from other parts of East Asia.
