Job overview

Greenfields School, Biddenden, Kent

Childhood First is a charity with a long and successful history of providing integrated programmes of care, education and treatment for traumatised children and young people with complex emotional and psychological needs. Greenfields  is our residential therapeutic community and associated therapeutic services for up to fourteen young people with complex, emotional needs.

The school is part of the Greenfields Therapeutic Community which includes two residential children’s homes. The community is managed by Childhood First, a charity which has a long history of working with emotionally traumatised children and young people through psychodynamic therapeutic practice.

We are currently looking for an exceptional candidate for the position of Assistant Head Teacher, with responsibility for KS3/4.

Based within the KS3/4 site but working in close collaboration with the whole school community, the post holder will play a key role in maintaining the existing KS 3 provision and embedding the developments in KS 4. The successful candidate will work toward developing links with teaching alliances and the wider community in order to enhance teaching and learning and the children’s personal development.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working successfully as a middle or senior leader within a small SEN KS3 /4 environment. Working knowledge of running BTEC, Functional skills and/or ASDAN courses at KS4 would be beneficial.

As an open and reflective practitioner, you will be able to draw on your understanding of individual needs as well as sensitivity to emotional factors inherent in the learning experience to enable teachers to best support young people with complex barriers to learning. Representing education within the integrated system the post holder will be able to demonstrate an awareness of collective thinking between care, education and therapy.

As part of Greenfields therapeutic community the school offers several reflective spaces to develop clinical thinking around the children/young people as well as to provide support through individual supervision and group dynamics for the staff.

Closing date: 9th June 2017
