Job overview

Leytonstone School is a village.

We are proud, a family, a community; we are citizens.

We work hard together, hands held, challenged to improve, and we improve, every day.

We are seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic senior leader to join our team and support the school in improving the life chances of all the pupils at our diverse school.

The principal priority for our school is to provide our young people with life chances – good qualifications and the capacity to be successful, fulfilled, healthy, happy and confident adults with a rich range of personal resources upon which they can draw. We are driven by a desire to make a lasting difference to our pupils, their families and our wider community through the education we provide and the associated services we offer to support the fulfilment of this vision.

Successful applicants will be joining a warm and harmonious school, populated with intelligent and hard-working leaders at all levels. Our pupils are a credit to the school and their local community and they thrive on creating positive and productive relationships with the adults who support them.

At Leytonstone School, all staff are held in high esteem and we believe that the positive wellbeing of staff is at the heart of creating a successful school.

We welcome visits to the school and if you would like to arrange a tour please contact Mel Huseyin on 0208 988 7420, or email mhuseyin2.320@lgflmail.org .

We may hold interviews as and when applications are received, and this job may be withdrawn without notice. Applications will only be considered if submitted online and before the closing deadline. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Leytonstone School is a mainstream, non-denominational, community secondary school for boys and girls aged 11-16. It is situated in Leytonstone, East London.

The school serves a truly multicultural community and it is proud of its diversity. Leytonstone School offers a broad curriculum for its 862 pupils, designed to extend its most able students and provide support to those who need it most. Emphasis is placed on the quality of pastoral care.

Leytonstone School features new facilities for science, technology, music, art and drama, while its main school building, which dates back to 1911, has been updated and refurbished. Formerly an all-girls school, it has been a mixed comprehensive since the 1980s.

Leytonstone School is a safe space where our pupils develop their ambitions and the life skills with which they will achieve them. Our school motto is ‘Great things will grow’ and we truly believe that the creation of an optimum educational experience will lead to all our pupils leaving the school as highly qualified, kind and confident young people with a wealth of experience of the wider world.

Academic achievement very is important for future success, but we aim to be more than just an educational establishment. We want to work hand in hand with the vision of the local community to reduce poverty, reduce violence and improve the health and life chances of our young people. The effectiveness of our work is seen in the fact that 98% of pupils who leave us continue on into further education, training or employment.

We believe that the key to doing this is to provide pupils with access to exceptional teaching and learning within a warm and motivational environment. Relationships between pupils and staff at the school are warm and harmonious. We work within a culture of trust, mutual respect and honesty. Our expectations of pupils are high and we know that as a result of experiencing such a context, our pupils will go on to lead enriched and fulfilled lives, making positive contributions to their own communities in turn
