Job overview
We are seeking to appoint, for September 2018, an exceptional classroom practitioner with the energy, creativity, authority and vision to inspire teachers and to maintain our position as a leading school in the county. Key roles will include leading staff training at NTS, line managing key staff and leading those in our Professional Development team. A confident communicator with emotional intelligence and an eye for detail, the successful candidate will also have ‘presence’ and outstanding pastoral skills to help maintain what Ofsted described as the ‘immaculate behaviour’ of our pupils. We are a traditional school (founded 1714), have a strong sense of values and adopt a healthy scepticism towards the latest trends. Our current, well-established SMT of four look forward to welcoming another equally dynamic, hard-working and committed individual who has fresh ideas, a thirst for intellectual, purposeful but good-humoured debate and a strong desire to translate this into positive action for the benefit of pupils and teachers alike.
Please phone, email (admin@nts.cumbria.sch.uk ) or visit our school website (www.nts.cumbria.sch.uk ) for further details and an application form. Please submit a covering letter with your application .
Closing date: 4pm Friday 16th March 2018
Shortlisted candidates will be notified early the following week.
Interviews will be held on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd March 2018,
NTS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service.

Values and vision
The Nelson Thomlinson School wants all students to achieve academic excellence in a caring and nurturing learning environment. It works at maintaining strong relationships with parents and pupils and believes that in order to succeed, a three-way partnership needs to exist. The school has the motto: Fide et Operis, translating from Latin to Faith and Works. Ofsted’s most recent visit in October 2023 highlighted our strong traditions and a school where pupils (and staff) are proud to live out it’s values. NTS also has a dedicated Professional Development department where opportunities for staff development and training are made a priority.
