Opened in 1894, the school provides an outstanding education for able students from all backgrounds, cultures and faiths. We capitalise on our location to attract students from all over Greater London and beyond, and give them access to every learning opportunity our capital has to offer.

About the role

The Assistant Head (Teaching, Learning and Research) will have a clear vision for developing the scholarship of highly able staff and pupils and be pioneering in their ambitions for them. They are responsible, in consultation with the Deputy Head (Academic), for setting the priorities for the development of teaching practice within the school, for leading the school’s digital learning strategy and broadening the intellectual opportunities for pupils and teachers alike.   With the Teaching and Learning Lead Practitioner, they will maintain the well-established programme of in-house pedagogical training and continue to develop the school’s embedded research culture.

About you

The successful applicant will be expected to keep up to date with and disseminate pedagogical developments to staff.  They will have an evidenced interest in developments in digital learning, including the readiness to explore how VR, AI and AR might be valuable to individual scholarship and embedded into effective teaching and learning. They will communicate their exciting teaching and learning vision to different stakeholders in and beyond the school, thinking imaginatively about different ways of promoting and publishing it, as part of the school’s aim to influence national educational discussion.

About our benefits

At CLSG, we believe that staff learning is as important as pupil learning. So we’re thoroughly committed to supporting the professional development of all our staff. You can also benefit from annual season ticket loans, cycle loans, shopping discounts and reductions on ticket prices at the Barbican. About City of London School for Girls

Academic yet unstuffy, modern yet acutely aware of its history, diverse yet with a strong sense of identity, our location in the heart of the City is definitive to the energy of our school.

City of London School for Girls is an independent day school for pupils aged 11-18 situated in the heart of the Barbican. Opened in 1894, the school provides an outstanding education for able students from all backgrounds, cultures and faiths. We capitalise on our location to attract students from all over Greater London and beyond, and give them access to every learning opportunity our capital has to offer.  This is best demonstrated by our unique geography, nestled between the brutalist Barbican and looming Roman walls. Ours is an intellectually edgy, unassuming and unpretentious environment, unshackled by tradition, and imbued with a relaxed excellence. This is a refreshing and modern place in which to learn.

Our school is one of brave academic enquiry, of intellectual wonder and of fiercely independent thinkers. It’s hard to convey the excitement of the learning at City, where ideas in these rooms become almost become bigger than the people in them, where the structures of learning can become an escape from the self and identity. City is a school which never places any artificial division on our formal academic and co-curricular provision, but celebrates the wild adventure and the fun of learning wherever it is found.
