The Governors of London Academy of Excellence (LAE), Stratford, are seeking to recruit a talented and exceptional senior leader to become Assistant Headteacher (Academic) from January 2019.  This is a significant opportunity for an ambitious candidate to develop their own leadership and to help shape the future development of one of the UK’s most successful state sixth forms.

LAE was established in 2012 in Stratford in the London Borough of Newham.  It was the first 16-19 free school to be approved under the coalition government’s free school programme.

Since then, it has delivered on its vision of promoting social mobility in the capital by providing a world class A-Level education to students in Newham and east London aspiring to win places at top universities.

LAE has rapidly gained a well-deserved local and national reputation for academic excellence by consistently achieving some of the best outcomes of any school or sixth form college in the UK.

Last summer over 60% of all A-Level grades were A*/A and 90% were A*/B.  LAE has placed in the top 1% of schools and colleges for ‘value added’ for the past four years.

These impressive results have enabled record numbers of students, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, to successfully progress to places on competitive degree courses at some of the UK’s most sought after HE destinations.

In 2016, in recognition of these achievements, LAE was named Sunday Times’ Sixth Form College of the Year. In October 2017, following its most recent OfSTED inspection, the school was graded ‘Outstanding’ in every category and overall.

We are seeking to appoint a person with:

• Proven leadership credentials and a track record of delivering outstanding outcomes for young people

• The energy, vision, imagination and commitment to contribute to the strategic development of the school as it enters into the next exciting phase of its development

• The organisational, strategic and inter-personal skills necessary to lead change for school improvement effectively

• In depth knowledge and experience of delivering A-Level specifications and supporting students through the UCAS application process

• A genuine commitment to the school’s core purpose of promoting social mobility through education

LAE can offer you the opportunity to:

• Work in a modern and positive learning environment only minutes from the Olympic Park and Stratford station

• Further develop your leadership and teaching experience in an outstanding, high profile and vibrant setting

• Contribute to the future success and development of one of the UK’s most successful schools

• Make a difference to the learning and life chances of a highly aspirational, committed and hard working group of students

• Work alongside an exceptional senior leadership team and wider staff body, all of whom are committed to ensuring the best possible outcomes for students

• Work collaboratively with colleagues from LAE’s six partner independent schools (Brighton College, Caterham, Eton, Forest, Highgate, USC) as part of one of the UK’s longest and best established ISSP partnerships

How to apply:  Closing date for applications: Thursday 4th October 2018   Completed applications should be submitted to applications@lae.ac.uk

Please submit

• A copy of your CV

• A completed LAE application form

Shortlisting will take place on Thursday 4th October 2018. Shortlisted candidates will be notified on Friday 5th October 2018.

References will be taken in advance for all shortlisted candidates.
