Job overview

This is a rare opportunity to play a part in transforming educational provision for this community.

Our school, previously known as Erith School has had a challenging history - changes in leadership, disappointing results and declining student numbers tell only part of the story.  Transforming performance in such a context takes time and significant effort – having appointed a new Headteacher, we are now looking to add further capacity and pace to our school improvement journey.  This is a chance to play a part in implementing a fundamentally different approach which we believe will release the potential of our young people.  Having previously been let down, many of them have limited expectations.

Renamed King Henry School, we are part of MAT with Townley Grammar School, a high performing local school with an exceptional reputation.  Since forming the MAT in September 2018, we have begun to embark on an ambitious improvement plan.  This is not a short-term fix.  Transforming the aspirations of our young people and our community takes time.

We are looking for talented and ambitious leaders who are attracted by our aims and will champion social mobility and equality.  You will become part of a team leading us on a journey of improvement, raising aspirations, expectations and standards.  No student should be left behind, whatever their background.

At the heart of our approach is the development of character values within our young people.  This is more than getting great examination results (although this is part of it).  It involves developing in our young people the personal characteristics and values to be a twenty first century student confident in any sphere and ready to take their place in the world.

We are not necessarily looking for the “finished article”.  We are interested in attitude, commitment and potential.   It will be challenging but you will also be well supported.  We are keen to invest in the professional development of our people.  If you think you have what it takes then access full details on the role at www.pentir.com/kinghenry .  For a confidential d iscussion please call our advising consultant Mike Phillips (07830 313 915) at Pentir.

King Henry School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.   Successful candidates will undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Closing date : 3rd February 2020

About Leigh Academy Bexley

Our Vision

We believe that every student should have the opportunity to be extraordinary through developing academic, physical and emotional confidence. This means having the courage to take risks and learn from their mistakes.  Success in education, as in sport, is the result of successive small failures followed by ever increasing challenges. As we tell our students;  “Everything worth achieving is outside your comfort zone.”
