Assistant Headteacher

Start Date: 1 September 2019 (or earlier by mutual agreement)

Contract type: Full time

Salary: L11 – 15 (£51,232- £56,432) - dependent on skills and experience

Contract term: Permanent

Following the promotion of the previous post holder, we seek a talented, innovative and inspirational leader with a proven track record of school improvement to join our Senior Leadership Team.

Supported by our pastoral team, the successful candidate will focus upon the ‘Personal Development and Well-Being’ of our students and lead on ‘Behaviour and Attendance’ across the school.  Wider responsibilities will reflect the skills and expertise of the successful candidate.

We are looking for leadership potential and capacity in applicants, rather than specific experiences; there is no expectation that applicants will have held a pastoral leadership post.  You will have a clear vision of what excellence looks like and possess the drive and tenacity to put this vision into action to ensure the best possible outcomes for all students.

Humphry Davy is a truly comprehensive community in which every child is cared for, supported and stretched. The school has a long-standing well-deserved reputation for its caring approach that values individuals and an ethos which encourages, supports and develops students of all abilities. The challenge is to ensure that the standard of care never falls, whilst student outcomes continue to rise.

This role is a great opportunity to build or extend a leadership profile towards headship at our popular and over-subscribed school in beautiful West Cornwall. Ofsted (Short Inspection November 2016) judged the school as ‘good’ stating, “Across the school we found that pupils were very keen to learn.  Pupils we spoke with enjoy coming to school and feel that they are making good progress.  Pupils are well-mannered and keen to tell visitors how good the school is and how it keeps them safe”.

If you are an outstanding classroom practitioner with the interpersonal skills to motivate and inspire others and a personal commitment to drive an ethos of continuous improvement then we want to hear from you. The successful candidate can be assured of our full support with their future professional and career development.

We are a Co-operative Trust School and a member of the Penwith Educational Trust (PET). Our Vision statement encapsulates what our school is about. It provides a clear direction for the school whilst reminding us of our core values when decision-making. Success comes from never lowering our high expectations and ensuring everyone shares our core values in each and every moment of every day. This is only achievable by working in partnership with our parents as it is together that we enable our students to flourish into what they each have the potential to be.

The contribution of the local community is very important to us all and as a school, we are always interested in the views of our parents and the local community. We are committed to ensuring our school is a valued part of the Penzance community and continues to provide the highest educational standards of which we can all be proud.
