The Trustees are seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher, Director of Science for Sedgefield Community College with effect from January 2022.

Would you like to progress your career in an academy judged by OFSTED as ‘outstanding’, an academy where both student achievement and attitudes to learning are amongst the best in the entire North East and Cumbria region? Would you also like to work in a fantastic, recently built academy, set in one of County Durham’s most scenic areas? If the answer to each of these questions is ‘yes’ then Sedgefield Community College could be right for you.

This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced Middle Leaders. Do you have a proven track record of successfully and consistently raising achievement of large cohorts of all student groups regardless of prior attainment or background? Are you able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of leading improvements that have led to measurable improvements in science teaching and learning? Do you have both the ability and tenacity to build upon the outstanding success of our previous Assistant Headteacher, Director of Science? Do you have the potential to contribute to line management of other significant whole school strategies and help take the school through its next stage of development? If the answer to each of these questions is ‘yes’ then we would like to hear from you.

Named in the Sunday Times list of the UK's top 50 schools (11 to 16),  Sedgefield Community College is now firmly established as one of North England’s consistently highest performing schools, with a reputation for outstanding and creative teaching and learning allied with strong, successful leadership. Whilst we are proud of our reputation as a highly successful school, as measured by its examination performance, we also take immense pride in the reputation we have for developing outstanding teachers and leaders.

In March 2017, Sedgefield was subject to an OFSTED inspection and as a result judged to be outstanding in all respects, however this significant achievement did not signal the end of the school’s commitment to achieving ever improving standards in all aspects of its work, rather it has merely acted as the catalyst for further progress.

Our student's attitudes to learning are excellent, with OFSTED going so far as to describe student conduct as ‘impeccable’. The high standard of care and support we provide our students has over time created a tangible bond between students and staff and as a result relationships between adults and students are such that we can confidently describe our students as welcoming, respectful and thoughtful and Sedgefield as a ‘happy’ school.

Having moved into our stunning new school building in 2011, we recognise how fortunate we are to have such a superb learning environment and the facilities that it provides. Whilst an impressive building does not necessarily equate to an outstanding school it certainly plays its part in supporting the culture of high standards and excellence that permeates everything that we do.
