Safa Community School is seeking to appoint an outstanding, talented and visionary Head of Sixth Form. The successful applicant will be a member of the Senior Leadership Group. Having a proven track record of success as a teacher, as a leader and manager and will have an in depth knowledge of all aspects related to Sixth Form education. 

The Head of Sixth Form will need the passion and commitment to promote and develop an outstanding Sixth Form. The Head of of Sixth Form will also be responsible for all DSIB Inspection preparation and readiness as it pertains to Year 12 and Year 13.

General Responsibilities

To lead both the team of tutors and cohort of students. This involves giving a clear vision and direction to work, identifying key areas for improvement and planning appropriate actions to meet them. 

To manage both the people and resources associated with each year group.  

To monitor the quality of learning experienced by the year group, liaising with heads of departments and offering support and guidance where necessary. 

To promote the ethos of the school through leading high-quality assemblies.

To use assessment data such as GCSE points score, and ALPS target grades to inform an analysis of individual student progress, collective progress across each tutor group, year group as a whole. 

To have an overview of the range of barriers to learning that impact on student progress. 

To use all of the above to identify underachievement with a view to establishing and coordinating improvement strategies in conjunction with teachers and Heads of Department .

To monitor the effectiveness of these interventions and report to SLT termly on the progress being made by students in the year group. 

To liaise with key staff, including the SENCO, regarding all groups of students’ achievement in the year group.

To report to the line manager on the progress of the year group and individuals, with particular reference to the attainment and progress of all students.

Leadership and Management 

1. To act as a role model for tutors by demonstrating high-quality pastoral care and academic monitoring of students, continuous professional development and professional presence in the year team. 

2. To lead and manage a team of tutors and maintain regular formal and informal contact with tutors. 

3. To ensure all tutors understand and are actively implementing the key aspects of the school’s policies including those for behaviour, attendance, uniform and safeguarding. 

4. To set the agenda for tutor meetings which should include a development item. 

5. To make a significant contribution to the induction of tutors referring to any individual training needs to the member of SLT with responsibility for staff INSET. 

7. To initiate and respond to communications with parents ensuring that they are kept fully informed and involved in the progress of their children. 

8. To contribute to the organisation of any parent information evenings. 

9. To be responsible for supporting an increase in admissions into the Sixth Form.

10. To oversee the completion of progress checks as appropriate. 

11. To oversee the completion of school reports for the year group including writing a summary comment. 

12. To work with form tutors to ensure appropriate follow-up to reporting procedures and to play an important part in the evaluation of reporting procedures. 

13. Preparing students for public examinations, assessing students for the purposes of such examinations, recording and reporting such assessments and attending meetings connected with the conduct of public examinations.

14. Keeping up to date with curriculum innovation, participating in arrangements for CPD, contributing to his/her own professional development.

15. To be responsible for university and post Sixth Form applications.

13. To ensure that all Sixth Form students have access to appropriate and high quality careers support and advice.

14. Being supportive of the UAE initiatives and cultural expectations.

Candidate Profile

It is desirable that the successful candidate:

• Will hold relevant qualifications and QTS.

• Is able to teach up to A-Level.

• Had strong leadership and management experience.

• Have an understanding of assessment and examination requirements for KS3, KS4 and KS5.

• Be an outstanding teacher with the ability to demonstrate outstanding practice and progress of students.

• Works effectively as part of a team.

• Actively keeps up to date with the developments in Sixth Form education.

• Has a willingness to develop as a professional, taking opportunities to train further to progress in their career.
