Are you an outstanding, energetic and well-qualified teacher, with successful middle or senior leadership experience, and with a passion for Sixth Form education? Would you welcome the opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking Senior Leadership Team, to develop and deliver an ambitious vision for our Sixth Form and its engaging and motivated students? If so, Denefield School would like to hear from you.

Situated on the outskirts of Reading and bordered by beautiful Berkshire countryside, Denefield is a seven form entry school, with approximately 200 students in each year group and 180 in the Sixth Form. As a school, we believe passionately that every young person should gain the qualifications and develop the character skills to have ‘Success for Life’.  To prepare them for this, we offer a rigorous and engaging curriculum with creative and practical subjects alongside traditional academic courses and all students work hard at developing the school’s nine CHARACTER values – confidence, happiness, articulacy, resilience, ambition, courage, tolerance, empathy and respect.

We are very proud of our Sixth Form students and their achievements. There are nevertheless significant opportunities for our new Assistant Headteacher – Head of Sixth Form – to work with staff, students and parents to make the Sixth Form pre-eminent in the local area. In addition, you will lead on supporting and challenging our most able students throughout the school. You will join an experienced group of senior leaders and qualified teachers who work as a team with a friendly, sharing culture, promoting the school’s core aims and culture. You will benefit from a programme of professional development aimed at helping you to develop your practice and your career.

Staff wellbeing is a key priority at Denefield and we strive to foster a better work/life balance for all our staff through a number of initiatives, including a cycle to work scheme, annual flu vaccinations and on-site yoga classes.  In addition, each training day ends with a wellbeing activity.  We know that happy teachers make for happy classrooms.

Visits from prospective applicants are welcomed. To arrange a convenient time to visit please contact Sue Ellison, the Headteacher’s PA, on 0118 9413458. For further details of the school, the post and of how to apply, please visit us at www.denefield.org.uk.

Denefield School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Top reasons to work at Denefield

  • Strong behaviour systems – we believe in clear routines, appropriate responses and outstanding relationships fuelled by mutual respect. This means that students can learn in lessons and teachers can teach. We centralise detentions so that teachers are free to think about curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Great curriculum resources – clear and coherent schemes of work that mean you can focus on how you teach.
  • Commitment to high quality CPD – we’ll support and challenge you as an individual so you can develop your skills as a teacher - whatever your career stage or experience.
  • Work smarter not harder – we focus on evidence-based approaches where teacher-time spent is commensurate with the impact on student outcome. This means, for example, that we use whole-class feedback rather than individual comments because at Denefield, we want you spending time on things that will actually make a difference!
  • Staff well-being as a priority – we care about our staff as teachers and as people. Teams work very closely together and support each other day-to-day. Our commitment to your health and well-being is centred around making sure you are only asked to do the things that make the most difference to our students, but we also sign up to initiatives like 'bike to work' and offer all staff a free winter flu vaccination and access to an employee assistance programme.

We welcome applications from international teachers and are able to sponsor eligible candidates. Please come and visit or get in touch to find out more about Denefield.
