Job overview

We are a 4-18 comprehensive school situated in the Calder Valley approximately six miles from Halifax. This year we saw the opening of Calder Primary creating an all-through provision for the communities of the Calder Valley. To accommodate the growing primary provision we have been successful in attracting significant investment to provide a new sixth form teaching block and develop a separate state-of-the-art building for our expanding primary unit. Over the last three years we have seen accelerated improvements in all areas of school, resulting in Calder High students achieving in the top 3 Calderdale schools for Progress 8 and 5A*-C incl. English and Maths. At Calder High, we have developed a culture where staff feel valued and appreciated through tailored CPD and training. Staff are encouraged to be creative in their approach to teaching and learning to enable all our young people to achieve the best possible outcomes. This was recognised in our most recent Ofsted inspection that judged us as good across all categories. Our journey to secure sustainable improvement is a challenge that all our staff and students have embraced and we are excited about what our future holds.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Headteacher who will lead on all aspects of the progress students make across Key Stage 4. This will be a very rewarding role with a key emphasis on driving progress and student attainment. You will be joining a Leadership Team, which is ambitious, committed to further raising standards across the school and determined to lead Calder High to “outstanding”. You will help to build on the solid foundations already in place and play a key role within the Senior Leadership Team.

In return for your hard work and commitment, you can expect a motivated student body who are eager to learn, staff who are committed to securing the best outcomes for all our students and a package of training and CPD to ensure you reach your career goals and aspirations plus:

  • The opportunity to join the senior leadership teacm in its next exciting phase
  • An incredibly strong, talented and committed staff team
  • A delightful student community
  • Strong support from the Headteacher, leadership team and governing body

We welcome and encourage visits to the school where you will have the opportunity to meet some of our team and students.

The closing date for completed applications is 9am Monday 23rd October 2017.        Interviews will be held 25th and 26th October 2017

The Calder Learning Trust

“Everybody, Everyday”

The Calder Learning Trust is an all-through school, providing an excellent standard of education for students from 4 – 16 years. There are two phases to our school: Calder Primary School for ages 4 – 11 and Calder High School for ages 11 – 16. Whilst each phase is distinct, they blend seamlessly into one learning community, offering fantastic opportunities for all our students.

Located in the heart of Pennine Yorkshire, in the village of Mytholmroyd, approximately six miles west of Halifax, The Calder Learning Trust serves the Calder Valley community stretching from Halifax through Luddendenfoot, then Mytholmroyd, and beyond to the town of Hebden Bridge and the border of Todmorden. It is ideally situated both close to the countryside and with easy transport links to towns and cities for varied learning opportunities outside the classroom.

We aim for our students from Reception to Year 11 to become confident, responsible and articulate young people, supported within and beyond the curriculum and engaging in the fantastic range of opportunities available. These include The Duke of Edinburgh award, sporting events and competitions and Expressive Arts. We were recently inspected by OFSTED as an all-through school in February 2022, and rated Good.

Our school values are ‘Care, Commitment, Courage’ and are woven through all that we do. Here at The Calder Learning Trust we aim for ‘Everybody, Everyday' to be and do their very best so that they can realise their dreams and aspirations.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school and offering you the opportunity to take a guided tour.
