Assistant Headteacher, Full Time.

What does this job do?

The Assistant Headteacher will support the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher in:

  • Communicating the school’s vision compellingly and supporting the Headteacher’s strategic leadership
  • The day-to-day management of the school
  • Formulating the aims and objectives of the school
  • Establishing policies for achieving these aims and objectives
  • Managing staff and resources to that end • Monitoring progress towards the achievement of the school’s aims and objectives
  • To ensure robust and accurate assessment of pupils which enables the effective tracking of progress and targeted interventions so all pupils make or exceed expected progress
  • To focus on the progress of all vulnerable groups including Disadvantaged, More Able and SEN to ensure teachers are aware of who these pupils are, ensure their progress is forensically tracked and put interventions in place so that they make progress in line with their peers and compare favourably with national comparisons
  • To regularly review and update the assessment policy to ensure a consistent whole school assessment system
  • Identify underperformance of pupils and work with subject leads to ensure intervention and support programmes are in place
  • Ensure challenging and realistic academic targets are set for pupils based on reliable and robust data and prior attainment with quality assured baseline assessments
  • Oversee the schedule and logistics of public and internal examinations
  • Develop the MIS system for school and department target setting and pupil tracking
  • Undertake and complete whole school performance data analysis
  • Use school prior attainment data to monitor, evaluate and review the effectiveness of the learning outcomes and the curriculum
  • Draft the school’s assessment and reporting calendar
  • Analyse and clearly present assessment data, including end of year examinations, to the various stakeholders including governors and the Trust
  • Ensure regular and accurate reporting of progress to pupils and parents • To use data to monitor pupil progress and then identify, implement and quality assure intervention strategies to raise achievement
  • Take responsibility for raising attainment at all Key stages, ensuring that all pupils achieve make or exceed expected progress
  • Work with the Deputy Headteacher to lead the design and implementation of the curriculum and assessment including controlled assessment and examinations

What are the job requirements?

  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Good Honours Degree in relevant discipline
  • Relevant experience and impact at lower middle leadership
  • Experience of managing a curriculum area
  • Experience of coaching/mentoring/supporting colleagues which has lead to improvement in performance
  • Experience of performance management
  • Has a good understanding of the wider educational agenda
  • A high level of self-awareness – knows strengths and weaknesses and can relate to difficult personality types well
  • Can demonstrate understanding of how effective self-evaluation and strategic improvement planning can increase effectiveness and raise student achievement
  • Knowledge of Timetabling, Data, Progress and Assessment
