Job overview

PREVIOUS APPLICANTS SHOULD NOT APPLY.

The English College, Dubai, seeks a positive, reflective and strategic Assistant Headteacher, responsible for either KS4 or KS5, to be a key member of the Secondary Leadership Team for August 2023. We are seeking a professional who is passionate about ensuring that students grow and develop holistically - academically, emotionally, physically and socially. The successful candidate will be reflective, open and willing to learn, showing honesty, integrity and vulnerability. They will be expected to engage in professional learning with the mindset that everyone can always improve.

This role has a wide remit. The successful candidate will be responsible for all students in either key stage 4 or 5, depending on the suitability of the applicant. They will be supported by two Heads of Year so that they are able to be strategic in their role; the role includes both academic and pastoral foci. The successful candidate will ensure that academic outcomes, both in terms of attainment and progress, are outstanding, they will ensure that teaching and learning across their key stage is of the highest quality and they will lead the KS4 or 5 options process, ensuring that all students are on the right courses for them. They will also play a key role in managing behaviour and attendance across their key stage as well as safeguarding - it is expected that they are willing to be DSL level 3 trained. There will be other strategic secondary wide roles and responsibilities in order to ensure the postholder is developed beyond their key stage so that they are prepared for deputy headship or headship, should they wish to take that next step. Candidates should state their key stage preference in their letter of application.

Applicants will need to be sympathetic with the ethos and values of The English College. We are looking for a highly committed team player with the drive, energy and passion to develop this forward-looking school. You should also illustrate a capacity to help students achieve their absolute best as part of a team, a proactive commitment to the pastoral care and well-being of our learners, and a willingness to contribute to the thriving extra-curricular life of our school. The successful candidate will need to play a significant role in the safeguarding of our students.

The English College is an established, independent, and co-educational British curriculum all-through school (EYFS through to Year 13) rated Outstanding by BSO in October 2022. Our students sit GCSE examinations at KS4 and A levels at KS5; we also have a small number of BTEC options at KS5. We are well-resourced with great facilities - we opened a brand new Secondary Building in August 2020 with 2 drama studios, a fitness suite, sports hall, specialised art and music rooms and science labs. We have a reputation for academic excellence; we place the success of each and every student at the centre of our mission. Our students are motivated, committed and love learning. Our staff are passionate and outstanding teaching professionals, and we are committed to providing excellent and ongoing CPD opportunities. All applications must be supported by a current CV, added as a supporting document.

  • Be honest, transparent and have integrity.
  • Have a good honours degree.
  • Hold a QTS or PGCE teaching qualification, preferably from the UK.

  • Be able to provide a UK enhanced DBS or equivalent police check.
  • Be professional in appearance and conduct
