Job overview

Maiden Erlegh School in Reading now has a fantastic career opportunity for an exceptional leader wanting an Assistant Headteacher post. If you share our passion for delivering and developing effective teaching and learning, have the highest expectations of yourself and others, are values driven and possess strong leadership and management aptitude and skills, then we would love to hear from you.

Maiden Erlegh in Reading is a relatively new 11-16 school serving the East Reading community. Since opening in 2015 we have already become the local school of choice in the community and we have been oversubscribed for four years. Our school is dynamic and diverse where students are at the centre of all we do, recognising that a well-supported and happy staff team is the key to fulfilling that ambition. Our many achievements were recognised by Ofsted in 2018 in a very positive report. Since inspection we have moved on further with our strategy of continuous improvement to develop the quality of education. We will receive our first full year 11 GCSE results in 2020, but already early entry results show that outcomes are significantly above national averages.

This is a career building opportunity for someone who is ambitious, for themselves and for our students and for someone who shares our values, of opportunity, diversity and success for all. You will be working alongside an experienced and highly effective leadership team and with a committed and hardworking staff team. We place a high value on staff development and training and support for the successful applicant is available through the school and our wider, local Trust.

The main areas of focus for this role will be:

  • Developing and improving the quality of education in the school – especially curriculum implementation/Teaching and Learning
  • Strategic leadership of Mathematics and other agreed teams
  • Contribution to the leadership and strategic direction of the school’s Standards Strategy

The post is open to existing senior leader and experienced middle leaders with a record of high quality and high impact curriculum leadership. Candidates should be able to demonstrate effectiveness in supporting staff and to deliver significant school improvement.

Closing date: 14 October 2019

Interviews: to follow shortly after

Maiden Erlegh Trust is currently made up of three local secondary schools and one primary school with a further school joining the Trust from January 2020.

We envisage that this role will attract significant interest and so visits prior to the application deadline will be arranged.
