We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Assistant Headteacher, SEND who will share our determination to transform the life chances of our students.

 As we will embark on the second year of our strategic review of SEND we are seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher to join our team to further develop and lead on inclusion across the school.

 We are looking for an experienced professional who can lead the strategic direction and development of SEND policy and provision, ensuring that  Queensbridge School continues to be an inclusive environment where students with SEN or a disability can thrive and achieve expected outcomes. You will lead the provision which supports pupils with their academic, personal and social development. The role is demanding and challenging but very rewarding. The post will lead a wider team with enthusiasm and commitment and will support staff to deliver high quality first teaching in line with the SEND Code of Practice in our outstanding school. In return, you will benefit from working within a forward thinking, creative and dynamic strategic leadership team providing you with whole school experience and opportunities to develop your career.  

 You will already hold or be working towards the National Award in Special Educational Needs Coordination (NASENCo). 

This position involves a teaching responsibility, and the successful candidate will be a full member of the SLT with AHT responsibilities. 

The successful candidate will: 

  • Lead, develop and maintain high quality SEND provision
  • Play a leading and strategic role in closing the gap for disadvantaged pupils
  • Have experience in SEND procedures and the successful inclusion of pupils with SEND in mainstream classrooms
  • Have experience of working with pupils with SEND
  • Be committed to inclusion and meeting the needs of all pupils and have a vision, energy and a desire to make a difference for our pupils
  • Be skilful in working with, monitoring and championing pupils with a range of different abilities and needs
  • Have strong classroom management skills and a commitment to the best possible outcome for all students
  • Have thorough knowledge of the new SEND Code of Practice
  • Have experience of improving teaching and learning at whole school level through effective intervention with teachers in order to improve the progress of our SEND pupils.

Queensbridge School is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary school in the Moseley suburb of Birmingham. Originally built in the 1950s, the school now has approximately 700 pupils aged 11-16. It is a specialist college in visual and performing arts. 

Queensbridge School enjoys close working relations with Birmingham Royal Ballet and the Royal Shakespeare Company. The area of Moseley has served as a source for literary inspiration: JRR Tolkien based the tranquil Shire in The Lord of the Rings on Sarehole Mill.
