Our school has many sensory aspects to the design to enable students to engage with their learning at every opportunity.  It is an essential part of our ethos that  the curriculum and every part of the building is easily accessible to all. We aspire to be a centre of educational excellence for students with severe and complex learning needs,  an exceptional place to work and learn for students and staff, a school that encourages creativity, challenge and self motivation  and a place where learning will be enhanced and enabled through an inclusive approach.

Our School

At the heart of our curriculum is our mission statement: “Learning Everywhere, Inspiring Everyone’.

Our school provides state of the art specialist facilities for students with Severe, Profound and Complex Learning needs.  Our facilities include a hydro therapy suite , art and design areas, food technology rooms, a space dedicated to physical exploration, music studio, a sensory trail and interactive lighting and touch screen ICT. We provide  training to enable staff to use all of the school facilities.

At Tuke, we have developed our own curriculum framework which brings together Education Health and Care plan outcomes, curriculum schemes of work, learning intentions and a systematic way of monitoring student personal progress.   Our students are unique in the way that they learn; they may experience difficulties with generalisation, memory retention, communication, problem solving, managing change, transitions and processing skills.   It is our aim to minimise barriers by creating learning opportunities that are purposeful and meaningful to each individual.   We have small class groups between 6-8 students.  Each class will have 3 or 4 support assistants in each class who are directly managed by the class teacher.  Our therapy staff work alongside educational staff to ensure that specific learning programmes are intergrated.

It is their skill, determination and motivation to provide the best education for all, that is the key to our success.  We embrace teachers with a varying degree of experience and skills.  Our induction programme is thorough and we are able to provide ongoing coaching and monitoring to further improve teaching and learning.  We have leadership development opporunities that  will be offered to teachers to enhance and sustain high quality leadership skills within our school.  Our staff work  preperation and social  are great too, with a comfortable staff room and a garden area for staff.
