Assistant Headteacher – STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). 

A key focus of this role is to work with the heads of STEM faculties to develop the curriculum, raise standards and increase students’ aspirations. The development of STEM outreach and an oversight of our careers strategy are also important elements of the role.

The new Assistant Headteacher will be passionate about the development of high quality teaching and will support colleagues to deliver an exceptional education to all students.  The successful candidate will be part of the senior leadership team and have responsibility for raising the profile of STEM subjects, driving improvements in the quality of teaching, improving students’ progress across STEM, developing STEM outreach initiatives, and line managing the STEM faculties.

We are looking for an Assistant Headteacher to lead from the front, so it’s important we find not only an outstanding leader, but an inspirational teacher.

Our ideal candidate will: 

  • be a champion of STEM learning– advocating inclusion and achievement for all; 
  • develop a STEM curriculum offer that enables all students to access high-quality experiences, both in and out of the classroom; 
  • continually improve teaching, learning and assessment practices in all STEM subjects; 
  • improve outcomes for all groups of students on our STEM courses; 
  • provide STEM related information, advice and guidance alongside enrichment opportunities; 
  • develop curriculum links and experiences in partnership with our local primary schools; 
  • create an excitement and engagement in STEM subjects for students and their families.

We are a mixed 4 – 18 Academy with over 1200 pupils on roll. The school is situated in beautiful countryside, occupying approximately 35 acres just to the north of Great Dunmow.

The school was established in 1958 and is named in honour of the first Chair of Governors.

At Helena Romanes, we are ambitious for our pupils and we offer them a rich and varied curriculum. Our pupils develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that enables them to move successfully into higher education, apprenticeships, training or employment.
