Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a skilful, passionate and driven colleague to join our Leadership team and play a central role in our school improvement journey over the coming years.

Therfield School is an 11-18 mixed comprehensive school situated in Leatherhead.  The school currently has just over 900 students on roll and has been growing rapidly.  We expect this to continue and to have over 1000 students within the next few years.  The sixth form is also growing and our students have a strong track record of securing places at Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities.

We are ambitious for our students.  That includes securing excellent academic outcomes, but also involves delivering on the commitment of our motto, “Excellence, Leadership, Opportunity”.   To us, that means we have a duty to ensure that students leave us fully equipped to make a significant contribution to society and the wider world around them.

We are proud that in 2019 Ofsted reported that, “There are strong relationships between staff and pupils that underpin a positive atmosphere in which pupils want to learn.  The school is characterised by a nurturing and caring ethos.”  If you feel that you have the experience, passion, knowledge, skills and resilience to help us improve the school further then we would urge you to apply.

The deadline for applications is Thursday 5th March at 9am.  We encourage you to visit the school before applying.  Please email jkelly@therfield.surrey.sch.uk to book a place on a scheduled tour for candidates.

If you wish to apply please see the Candidate Information pack for details about how to apply.  Interviews will take place over two days during the week beginning 16th March.

Please send your completed application to Jo Kelly either by email to jkelly@therfield.surrey.sch.uk  or by post to the school’s address.

The governing body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Values and vision

Therfield School’s motto is “The best for all – excellence, leadership, opportunity”. There are five core values at the heart of the secondary: respect, responsibility, perseverance, independence and integrity. Teachers encourage students to develop their leadership skills, while fostering in pupils the courage to stand up for what is right as they progress into adult life.

Self-discipline and self-worth are instilled into pupils in order to help them achieve to their full potential. Therfield School wants its young people to grow into remarkable citizens and so develops their skills, knowledge and character alongside their studies.

Leadership and teamwork are key to the school’s ethos and a number of programmes are offered to expand these skills, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, Surrey School Games and World Challenge Expeditions. The secondary holds specialist status in sports, with facilities including a gym, tennis courts and an astroturf pitch.

Ofsted report

Leaders and managers, including those responsible for governance, are highly ambitious for the success of students. They work hard to ensure that all students are treated equally and that there is no discrimination.”
