Meadowhead School Academy Trust is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated professional who will join a forward-looking team.

Meadowhead is a rapidly changing and improving school under new leadership. This leadership post has been created to accelerate the rates of progress of SEND students. We are looking for a leader who has a proven track record with SEND learners.  The successful candidate will be working with dedicated and vibrant teams across the school in the pursuit of excellence. You will be a person who thrives on challenge, enjoys working with young people and is passionate about seeing them achieve.

The successful candidate will find our students enthusiastic and eager to learn. Support from established and experienced senior leaders will be readily given. The post is suitable for someone new to senior leadership or with experience in a smaller school.

The person we are looking for should be:

  • passionate and enthusiastic about learning and about their own specialist subject
  • a strong leader
  • an inspirational, creative and highly effective teacher
  • driven to ensure excellent progress for all, especially disadvantaged learners
  • a hardworking, imaginative thinker who has excellent organisational and time management skills
  • a team player who wants to work and engage with colleagues at all levels within the school

At Meadowhead School Academy Trust you will find:

  • students eager for success
  • supportive colleagues
  • excellent professional development and guidance

Working closely with the Curriculum and Pastoral leaders, the Assistant Headteacher (SENCO) is responsible for the strategic delivery of Learning Support across the school.  They will ensure all teaching staff are trained in supporting students in study skills.  They are responsible for arranging screening of new students on entry for learning support needs, and meet prospective parents and students if there are particular SEND needs to discuss reasonable adjustments with staff and families.

The AHT oversees the team in identifying and assessing individual needs, drawing up and implementing individual educational plans, and monitoring their effectiveness.  They work with external agencies as required, and with the Exams Office to ensure appropriate accommodations are made for both internal and external exams.  They will also be involved in working together with form tutors and parents to support students. The AHT will also oversee the Learning Support Faculty and interventions for SEND children.

The post is full-time, but it is envisaged that the successful candidate will teach about 8 periods per week of a curriculum subject and be an experienced teacher.   The successful candidate will either have SENCO and assessment qualifications or a proven track record working in this area and a willingness to gain appropriate qualifications.  Good interpersonal skills are essential.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed. Please contact Joy Kelsey (HR Manager) at kelseyj@meadowhead.sheffield.sch.uk to arrange a visit.

Values and vision

At Meadowhead our vision is to make a difference to the lives of our young people. Through excellence and continual improvement, we aim to be the best we can possibly be for our current and future students. We are determined that all our students achieve their full potential and leave us as confident, compassionate and articulate individuals to grow and prosper in the 21st century.

We work in partnership with others to equip students with the skills, attitudes and qualifications needed to lead fulfilling lives and to become responsible adults. Through a skilfully planned curriculum, enrichment experiences, high standards in teaching and pastoral care we fully prepare our students for entrance to further and higher education, high quality employment and the future careers of their choice.

Our ambition is to develop and nurture young people to become well rounded individuals with the characteristics to contribute fully to society with a strong sense of civic responsibility. We want to ensure that our students are equipped with the knowledge, understanding and skills to influence change and to improve their own lives, their local community and the planet. We aim to inspire young people to live sustainable lives and develop the green skills to tackle both the causes and the impact of climate change resulting in better futures for all.

The House System

When students start at Meadowhead, they and the rest of their form group are allocated a house: Sharman, Pearson, Douglass and Brearley. Each of the houses are named after inspirational figures who have made a difference in their chosen field or discipline. Students compete as houses in events like Sports Day and for the annual Rewards Cup. The names of each figurehead was chosen during the 2021-22 academic year during a public consultation with students, staff, local residents and alumni. As students transition into the Sixth Form, students keep their house as they move to their new specialist form.

Continuing Professional Development

We have a strong programme of CPD for all staff.

Staff benefits now include enrolment onto the enhanced package for Smartclinic which provides occupational health and well-being support for all employees.
