Job overview

Term time

With experience of working with young people, you have a natural empathy with teenagers. You understand how they think – and you can help to build a strong sense of community within which every student supports each other to live happy and fulfilled lives. So bring your talents to a new role that’s as diverse and challenging as it is rewarding.

You will play your part in achieving that as you take responsibility for the well-being of girls within the House. Providing key support to the Housemistress in the smooth day-to-day running of the House, you will also help to oversee the pastoral care and academic progress of day girls and boarders.

As well as excellent communication skills, you should bring strong administrative abilities and a well organised approach. A friendly, nurturing and sympathetic attitude is also important, alongside upholding the highest standards of discipline. High levels of energy and stamina are needed to make the most of this residential post.

Both teaching and non-teaching applications are welcomed. If you are a Teacher, the Assistant Housemistress role will be on a reduced timetable. Experience teaching Theology or Mathematics would be an advantage but is not essential. If you are not a Teacher you will be expected to contribute to the wider school community in a different capacity, according to the needs of the School, as determined by the Head of Boarding.

There is a genuine occupational requirement (as defined by Schedule 9 (Part 1) of the Equality Act 2010) for the postholder to be female. Accordingly, this post is open to women only.

Close to London, yet in an outstandingly beautiful rural setting, Woldingham is a happy and successful Catholic boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18. With a strong community and caring culture, we are building on a proud heritage that stretches back over 175 years. We’re now driving an exciting future that’s underpinned by fresh ideas, an innovative spirit and state-of-the-art facilities.

Closing date: 9am, Monday 24 May 2021.

Interview date: Friday 28 May 2021.

Woldingham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS report will be required for the successful candidate.

The Woldingham community is a rich one in which many different backgrounds and cultures are represented and many different languages spoken.  This diversity is valued and respected and we are keen to welcome applications from all applicants that feel that they meet the requirements of the role, regardless of their background and culture. All job applicants will be considered solely on their ability to do the job.

Our professional team of staff is Woldingham’s greatest asset, and we want to ensure that everyone is supported to work in an effective, enjoyable and fulfilling way. Staff Development is a high priority, with induction and mentoring programmes for Newly Qualified Teachers and new colleagues, plus an annual cycle of Personal Professional Development planning for all colleagues.

Staff are welcome to use our range of outstanding facilities including the gym, squash and tennis courts and the swimming pool. Our Staffroom Committee organizes regular social events for our sociable, welcoming staff community.
