Godstowe enjoys an enviable reputation in preparatory school education for girls to the age of 13. Our P.E. Department comprises six dedicated P.E. teachers, led by the Director of Sport. Pupils at Godstowe have a timetabled period of P.E. on four out of five days per week and learn a multitude of sports. The girls’ achievements in competitive netball, lacrosse, gymnastics, swimming, tennis and athletics is noteworthy. At the same time, we take pride in our all-inclusive approach to games and sport, striving to make sport and physical education a positive and enjoyable experience for all pupils. The School co-ordinates an impressive schedule of fixtures and sports events – for able sporty girls as well as emerging talents. In addition to the weekly fixtures, selected girls have the opportunity to participate in our annual ski trip, and a bi-annual lacrosse tour to the USA.

The sports facilities at Godstowe are simply outstanding. We have just opened our 25m four lane swimming pool. We have a dedicated multi-purpose Sports Hall, a Dance Studio, as well as outdoor netball and tennis courts and a lacrosse pitch/athletics field.

Our enthusiasm for sports is boundless and we are looking for a talented person to join our team as an Assistant. The post is initially limited to one academic year. The post holder will work for 34.2 weeks of the academic year. We are offering an annual salary of £7,575 paid over 12 equal monthly instalments.

Please complete our application form and send it, together with a covering letter, to the Headmistress, Ms Sophie Green. Applications can be submitted either via email to the HR & Compliance Officer, Mrs Ackermann, at gackermann@godstowe.org or by post to Godstowe Preparatory School, Shrubbery Road, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire HP13 6PR.

Something Special is happening at Godstowe

Godstowe was founded by two strong, progressive women, originally in fact as a school whose purpose would be to prepare girls for the move down the hill to Wycombe Abbey School. Their vision was for an innovative, academic and broad education for girls and, without a doubt, this continues to live on in today’s school.

Our ethos is simple. All we want is for our girls and boys to be Confident, Happy and Successful. Indeed, if the first two are true, the third will almost certainly follow. Success is defined in many ways, and we mean successful in the broadest sense: successfully kind, successfully courteous as well as successful in achieving a wide range of goals. We keep our pupils busy and engaged, we entertain and intrigue them, encourage them, and excite them. Happy children are easy to teach.

With outstanding, highly qualified teaching staff as well as a strong and experienced pastoral team, excellent facilities, wonderful surroundings, a non-selective intake policy and a more positive, exuberant and industrious atmosphere than you will find in other schools, it is likely that most of our children will be happy to learn, happy to stretch themselves, happy to support each other, and happy to do whatever they can to take an active part in their own education. Why push children through the curriculum when they can be inspired to make their own journey, choose their own routes and arrive at their destination under their own steam?

Our pupils love their time at school. It never ceases to amaze me just how much highly motivated and enthusiastic people can willingly contribute, and we don’t just mean the girls and boys, we mean the staff and the parents too! Godstowe is alive with opportunity. Remember, to learn a lesson you need to live it.
