Job overview

Do you want to be part of a team that is creating a transformational all-through school? Would you relish the chance to grow Key Stage 2 from scratch? Do you believe that every young person is on a pathway to studying at a competitive University?

As a new all-through school, Goresbrook has a rare opportunity to innovate and create a superb, continuous learning experience for children from 3-18 years. Our Primary school opened in September 2014, and our over-subscribed Secondary school opened in September 2016.

Our existing young, dynamic and energetic Primary team are totally committed to excellence, and thrive in a ‘no excuses’ culture. We are driven by a desire to transform the lives of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. All of us want to change the conversation in education by showing what is possible with a community that is in need of high quality school places.

The Curriculum and Assessment Primary Senior Leader will join the current Senior Leadership Team, which includes experts in both Primary and Secondary phases; we operate as an all-through SLT to bring about improvement across the whole school. You will have a chance to shape your role across numerous areas of responsibility, and therefore equip yourself for your next step towards Headship.

The community is enthusiastic about what we have to offer as a new school: a relentless focus on high standards, a challenging and academically rigorous curriculum, excellent behaviour that enhances learning, a values-driven culture linked to our strong values, opportunities to develop cultural capital through immersive wider learning opportunities through the Goresbrook Guarantee.

We have the children; we have the brand new state-of-the-art building; we now need you! Whether you are an experienced Middle or Senior Leader, you will be looking for a new challenge and be keen to take a significant leadership role in shaping Goresbrook School. As we are growing every year (1300 pupils at full capacity including Sixth Form), there will be lots of opportunities for promotion and development.

Our curriculum is based on cutting-edge insights from cognitive science and educational research. It is designed in order for pupils to achieve mastery of skills in English and maths and therefore to flourish in all areas of their learning. English and maths, as the cornerstones of our curriculum, are complemented by a rich offer in the arts, sciences, languages, physical and technical disciplines. We recognise the discrete nature of the knowledge and skills required for different disciplines of learning and ‘map backwards’ in each curriculum area from ‘readiness for University’ back to EYFS. We look at the best practice from across the globe to influence our thinking. All staff at Goresbrook visit excellent schools both within the UK and overseas regularly.

Every decision at Goresbrook School answers the question “does this help pupil’s learning?” If the answer is “no”, we don’t do it. This means that all of our developing systems are as simple, transparent and effective as they can be.

We seek and act on feedback to improve constantly. All teachers receive weekly coaching and development time in addition to planning. Lessons are regularly recorded for personal and peer feedback. As a result our teachers and leaders improve their practice very quickly. As a leader, a large proportion of your time will be spent coaching others.

If you want to work in an environment where you will really make a difference, Goresbrook is for you. If our core values of growth, belief and team resonate with you, and you enjoy a fast-paced environment that celebrates hard work and success, then you will love working here.

You are very welcome to visit us, even if you don’t end up applying for the post. We are 20 minutes on the tube from Mile End, and just a 15 minute drive from East London. We love to have people visit, to participate in children’s learning and to join us for our ‘family dining’ lunch experience.

You may also like to arrange an informal chat with the Principal, Clare, or the Assistant Principal, Megan. Feel free to contact them directly on
