What it’s about

The Cambridge English’s PMO team is developing and growing, so if you are passionate about project reporting, assurance and helping the smooth delivery of projects, the Assistant Portfolio Project Manager role may be for you!

If successful, you will be part of a new team that works closely with Project Managers acting as their critical friend, identifying dependencies between projects and helping to unblock, developing and maintaining project management tools and providing assurance to senior managers on the health of the Portfolio.  You will not be bored, but this also means you have a range of opportunities from developing and testing tools, communicating with project sponsors, project managers and specialists, learning new tools e.g. Project Online to name a few.

Ultimately you will be part of a new but important team that ensures Cambridge English is doing the right projects, at the right time with the right resources.

What you’ll be doing:

• Supporting project managers – act as the Project Manager’s critical friend and provide insight / intelligence from across the portfolio through reporting and ad hoc communication.

• Supporting the CE Portfolio - Using tools to analyse project health, using this information to support preparation of reports for use by governance boards.

• Supporting documentation – ensuring that all projects/programmes are documented and controlled using agreed project/programme methodologies, policies and standards. Assisting with project reviews and health checks where required.

• Supporting business improvement - Participate and play an active role in internal projects


What we’re looking for

• Educated to degree level or equivalent experience 

• P3O, PRINCE2 or other Project Management Foundation qualification 

• Able to use own initiative (Essential)

• Excellent problem solving skills, make decisions where necessary but escalate decision-making or governance decisions where appropriate. (Essential)

• Manage multiple concurrent work tasks to tight deadlines. (Essential)

• Communicate (verbal and non-verbally) clearly, concisely, and frequently, being aware of the audience.

• Work collaboratively with and influence a broad range of stakeholders, and to build excellent collaborative working relationships.
