Job overview

The Cabot Learning Federation is a mature academy group in the South West. We currently sponsor eight secondary academies and eight primary academies, an all through provision, Digitech Studio School and a discrete Post 16 provision and an alternative provision which consists of one primary and two secondary phases.

City Academy is at the heart of Bristol and serves a very diverse community. It has been on an enormous improvement journey over the last five years, being judged “Good” by Ofsted in April 2019, and is now oversubscribed in years 7 and 8 and is predicted to be in for year 7 in September 2020.

This exciting opportunity offers the chance to undertake an Assistant Principal role within the Cabot Learning Federation. You will work positively with the Principal and Vice Principal to identify priorities and opportunities for academy improvement that support the achievement of outstanding outcomes. You will also lead on the delivery of one of the academy’s strategic aims and rigorously ensure that the academy’s systems are working smoothly and effectively on a day-to-day basis.

You will be an inspiring leader who, through leading by example, will promote high expectations and support the delivery of high attainment for all students. You will be an effective team player who is dynamic, creative and able to play a significant role in the strategic direction and development of the academy.

This role is to expand the leadership team to four Assistant Principals, a Vice Principal and the Principal to add capacity to the improvement journey.

The priorities of the role are:

• To help drive academy improvement by playing a full part in the leadership team; contributing and challenging others in the team in equal measure.

• Working alongside the Vice Principal improving teaching and learning.

• Championing literacy across the academy and effectively implementing strategies to continue to improve students’ literacy.

• Oversee new staff induction and all aspects of initial teacher training.

Working within the federation, you will benefit from excellent peer support from colleagues in similar roles across the Federation and great opportunities for continuing professional development. You can expect positive challenge, a supportive environment to succeed within and, in the longer term, further career opportunities across the Federation.

Our multi-cultural Academy has been recognised time and time again for its integration of students and its pioneering approach to providing first class learning for all. At City Academy students will achieve more, more than anywhere else and more than they ever thought was possible.
We embrace and celebrate difference; develop the personal characteristics needed for life, work and leisure; promote the skills required for life in a global community and a technological age; we take pride in all our achievements and continue to strive for greater success.

Our curriculum allows the flexibility for students to take on new skills and learn new things; our pastoral system allows personalised care and attention and our support and guidance service enables students to achieve dreams.
