Job overview

PACA wishes to appoint an outstanding individual to join the leadership team to take on the role of Assistant Principal with responsibility for enrichment across the curriculum and student personal development.  This role includes taking responsibility to promote student wellbeing and school events and it comes with the expectation that the successful candidate will show the potential to take on wider leadership roles, in areas such as curriculum and teaching and learning, in future years.  This is a great opportunity to join a popular and growing school as well as being a stepping-stone towards headship.  The role includes responsibility for line managing a year group and a faculty.  The role has a 50% teaching load.

PACA has grown rapidly in the last 4 years, going from a school of under 500 to a school of near 1000 pupils.  This comes on the back of 3 successive years of strong results and the recruitment of a dynamic team of teachers.

PACA is part of the Aldridge Education Multi-Academy Trust and as such, the successful candidate will both benefit from and contribute to the MAT-wide support for schools, teachers and leadership.

The successful individual will be responsible for taking PACA’s wider learning offer to the next level, integrating enrichment across the curriculum as well as through extra-curricular activities, driving our careers programme, ensuring that students have a wide range of opportunities to develop their skills and experience to make them employable, overseeing PSHE and ensuring that PACA delivers on our equality and diversity agenda. A key theme for Aldridge Academies is Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.  As such, one of the themes for our wider curriculum work with students is promoting independence and creating a climate of enterprising achievement.

We are looking for a creative leader who:

  • Has credibility as an outstanding practitioner
  • Has exceptional leadership and communication skills and can create change through others
  • Has a track record of driving forward improvements
  • Is committed to developing a positive, enthusiastic learning culture for all staff and students
  • Is intuitive, personable with a good sense of humor and strong sense of moral purpose
  • Has strong evidence of being prepared for this pivotal role as a leader of improvement
  • Can work closely with the Principal and Vice-Principal in shaping and implementing the strategic direction of the school community.

We can offer:

  • A growing school on a journey to outstanding, fully staffed with teachers teaching their subject specialism, and with a track record of strong results.
  • A dynamic, inclusive and happy school with a strong sense of community and exceptionally positive relationships.
  • A culture in which learning is valued by staff, students and parents/carers.
  • A school which places great value on the extended curriculum including STEM, Social Action, enterprise and entrepreneurship and enrichment, and which has the ambition to take this to a higher level.
  • High quality professional development that includes involvement in national networks and across the multi-academy trust.
  • An opportunity to shape the future for a whole generation of young people and beyond.

Visits from prospective applicants are welcome and can be arranged by contacting Sheila Cahill at: s.cahill@paca.uk.com

About Portslade Aldridge Community Academy

Welcome to Portslade Aldridge Community Academy (PACA), a thriving 11-16 school rated Good by Ofsted (2016). Our results have been consistently improving for over three years and our Progress 8 score (0.3) is now the second highest in the city. Recognised as Brighton’s Most Improved School in the local media in 2017, our KS3 student intake grew over 80% year on year in 2017, and is set for further significant growth in 2018.

PACA has developed a strong learning culture of “Expert Learner” with students actively engaged in their own progress. High standards are maintained throughout the school with strong outcomes, particularly in the fundamentals of English and maths. We also have excellent outcomes in art and a focus on STEM. The current post-16 offer, a mixture of academic and vocational, is a key development priority through partnership work with local employers, leading organisations and our sister school in the city. Our digital media academy, an exciting collaboration between the two schools and over 40 local companies, is a great example of how these partnerships can deliver for our students.

In common with all Aldridge schools we also have a strong focus on developing the enterprise skills, attributes and confidence that help our students navigate through higher education and the many employment opportunities that will be available to them in the future.

PACA is so much more than a school. We work closely with, and offer our facilities to, the wider community as well as partnering with local primary schools and employers. Those facilities, which have benefitted from an £13m investment since we became an academy, include a STEM centre, Mac suite, specialist dance and art studios, and a community library. Our positive contribution to the community in which we live and work was recognised in winning the Brighton Community School of 2016 Award and the Most Improved School in Brighton & Hove Award 2017.

Aldridge Education

PACA is a member of the Aldridge Education multi-academy trust. We work in different regions across England where the opportunities and prospects for young people are often most limited, and where the introduction of our entrepreneurial approach to education can have most benefit.

We are a values-driven organisation with a commitment to non-selective, inclusive schools, providing children and young people with an exceptional educational experience. Our goal is that, by the age of 25, all Aldridge graduates will have experienced an outstanding and enjoyable education and be able to sustain the life of their choice.
