Harris Academy Rainham is looking for an outstanding, experienced qualified teacher to join our academy as Assistant Principal for Behaviour and Culture. 

Your opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity and will require an individual who is able to formulate and implement a strategy for creating a student culture in line with our Belong, Believe, Become ethos.  This involves developing a culture of academia and scholarship within a caring, tolerant and respectful community, through the crafting of school wide norms, routines and learning behaviours.  

You will have a wealth of opportunities to develop as a leader with the Harris Federation. We can offer you a range of bespoke courses and qualifications through our Teaching School, including our Aspiring Leaders NPQH for aspiring principals.

Succession planning is a key part of our success as a Federation, and we believe that we are at the forefront of developing the next generation of Leaders. We can help prepare you for your next Senior Leadership challenge, investing in your knowledge and expertise through regular support, coaching and a wide range of professional development and training.

What we are looking for

We look for talented individuals who want to be a part of transforming education in London, and helping create exceptional places of learning. This role would suit an existing Assistant Principal or a Head of Department / Lead Practitioner looking for promotion. 

You must hold QTS (or equivalent) and an undergraduate degree to be considered for this role.

About Harris Academy Rainham

At Harris Academy Rainham we hold that our academy should provide students with a deep sense of belonging to a caring community, the belief in themselves and their unbounded potential and the opportunities to become more than they thought was possible.  These are the values that we hold to be true and that drive our academy forward. Harris Academy Rainham joined the Harris Federation (a not-for-profit charity with 25 years of experience in education) in September 2016. In joining Harris, we have become part of a family of happy and highly successful primary and secondary schools in London and Essex and have the benefit of a team of experts in education who can provide teachers and leaders at Harris Rainham with a great deal of focused support. We teach in mixed ability groups, except in maths, which is divided into sets. Where students need extra help, our teachers coach them in small groups or provide one to one support. Special educational needs are catered for with care and expertise.

We have high expectations of the way in which students should conduct themselves. We are consistent in our approach to encouraging good behaviour and the result of this is a culture that is always friendly, orderly and respectful.

Most subjects are taught in mixed ability groups, except Maths, which is divided into sets. Where students need extra help, our teachers coach them in small groups or one-to-one. Special educational needs are catered for with care and expertise.

Those looking to be challenged have plenty of opportunities. Through The Brilliant Club, PhD tutors deliver university-style tutorials to our students. Meanwhile, Harris Experience gives students unique cultural and academic experiences to prepare them for entry to top universities. 

As well as striving for academic excellence, we encourage students to find At least one activity or club that they enjoy and can excel in. This encourages self-confidence and social skills. 


Working for Harris Federation

The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit charity. Led and run by teachers, we established our first school over 25 years ago.

There are now more than 40 happy and highly successful primary and secondary academies in our federation. All of these are in and around London. With each school that has joined us, the expectations we set ourselves have increased.

Every Harris academy so far inspected by Ofsted is rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’, with three quarters of our inspected secondary academies judged ‘outstanding’. Our primary schools are newer, but almost half are ‘outstanding’, with the rest ‘good’.
