Job overview

Assistant Principal – Futures, Personal Development & Community (Ref MAG35)

Full-time – September 2020

Salary: L10 – 14 (salary negotiable based on experience)

At Magna Academy we have a team of dedicated people who are all working together to achieve our mission of preparing our students for success in the 21st century. Our Academy is a vibrant and exciting place to work and was graded as outstanding in all areas by Ofsted in December 2018. We are proud that our outcomes and progress are very strong across the school.

The Assistant Principal Futures, Personal Development & Community is a multi-faceted role which draws together three key areas for development within the academy.

Futures is Magna Academy’s Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme. The Assistant Principal Futures, Personal Development & Community will be responsible and accountable for the delivery of Magna Academy’s Futures programme providing a clear overview of the academy’s provision and making sure that the academy meets the Gatsby Benchmarks by the end of 2020. The Futures programme spans across all five-year groups and the sixth form. The Assistant Principal (F, PD & C) will line manage the Head of Careers supporting them to plan, implement and quality assure the Futures programme. This will include managing the delivery of careers guidance, networking with external partners, including employers; coordinating the contributions of careers teachers, subject teachers, tutors and the SENCO.  A key element of this role will be to ensure that the Futures provision continuously improves, which will require quality assurance mechanisms to aligns our provision with best practice, keeping good records, seeking feedback, evaluating impact and seeking external review of the Academy’s provision where necessary.

The Assistant Principal (F, PD & C) should work closely with the Head of Careers and be focused on what happens to students after they leave school. It is critical that the Academy has strong systems to monitor intended destinations and to track students after they leave the academy. They should also be familiar with the destinations measures published by the Department for Education and use this to review the impacts of the Academy’s Futures provision.

In addition, the Assistant Principal (F, PD & C) will further develop and lead a creative and inspirational Personal Development programme (PSHCE/SRE) from Year 7 through to sixth form. This will include organising its delivery, liaising with staff and ensuring the programme remains current.

The Assistant Principal Futures, Personal Development & Community will report to the Vice Principal Learning, liaise directly, and regularly with the Futures link governor.
