Job overview

South Thames College Group are now looking to appoint an energetic and talented Assistant Principal for Inclusive Learning and High Needs. The role will be based primarily at Merton and Carshalton Colleges, and the post holder will undertake day to day curriculum management in addition to taking cross Group responsibility for high needs and inclusive learning.

The STC Group was created in 2017 out of a merger of Kingston, Carshalton and South Thames Colleges. Led by Peter Mayhew-Smith, STCG has established itself as one of the top Colleges in London. Recently released National Achievement Rate Tables show that STCG has made impressive progress since its creation, and we are keen to continue making this progress. The Assistant Principal for Inclusive Learning and High Needs will be a key part of this journey driving further improvement in specialist and embedded provision for students with high needs and broader SEND.

Within this role, you will lead the strategic development and quality improvement of the SEND offer in line with the South Thames Colleges Group (STCG) objectives. The role also includes the provision of additional learning support for adult students across the group. Reporting to the College Principal this role will drive further robust quality improvement across the Group, with a particular focus on Carshalton and Merton Colleges where the majority of the discreet SEND provision is located.

The group will have well over 400 students with high needs next year who will be spread across discreet and embedded provision. Merton campus is also host to the highly regarded specialist Aurora Centre for students with moderate to severe learning difficulties. Our discreet provision which will be delivered across all main sites next year also caters for many students with SEND requiring lower levels of support. In line with the new Education Inspection Framework, we are focussed on good progression for all our students whatever their needs and challenges may be. Additionally the Group has a large number of adult students and is proud of the additional support offered to these learners through various routes.

In order to be successful in this role, you will possess a Degree or appropriate professional qualification. The ideal candidate will have thorough understanding of inclusive learning, with a particular focus on high needs provision and additional learning support for adults. Experience of developing specialist and mainstream curricula suited to the needs of students with additional needs is a specific requirement for the post. Excellent people management and data analysis skills are a must. If you think you have the required experience, drive and skills to achieve in this role then we’d like to hear from you.

For further details on this opportunity please see the Job Description attached.

Closing date for the return of an online application form is 28 June 2019.
