Job overview

English Martyrs is a school which puts people first and is committed to the education of the whole human person, ‘fully alive’. We value education as an intrinsic good and recognise the value of all academic disciplines in ensuring we can enable each student to find their vocation and to flourish.

The academy seeks to recruit an Assistant Principal to this highly successful oversubscribed 11-18 Catholic school, enriched by its Arts specialism. The school is very successful with an ‘Outstanding’ Sixth Form and ALPS ‘2’ both for A Level and GCSE.

This is a new role which encompasses whole school strategic responsibilities as a full member of the Senior Leadership Team as well as specific responsibility for the leadership of the Mathematics faculty. The school’s Mathematics department is a well-qualified and ambitious team and we have seen significant improvements in recent years. We seek a new leader to energise us and deploy our undoubted strengths really effectively to drive student achievement to even greater heights. The assistant principal will be supported in his/her work by two other TLR holders, each currently responsible for a key stage.

Are you an enthusiastic and innovative leader who will help us to develop teaching and learning for all our students? If so then this post could be for you! As a member of our team we can offer you a wide range of professional development, including the opportunity to work collaboratively across our newly formed regional multi-academy trust.

For an informal visit or conversation about the role please contact Marius Carney, Principal, via his PA Maureen O’Connor moconnor@englishmartyrs.org/ 01162428880.

English Martyrs’ School provides a supportive environment and induction programme for all new staff and is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and has a strong track record of induction and training.

About English Martyrs' Catholic School, a Voluntary Academy

Welcome!

Thank you for looking us up and for your interest in working at English Martyrs.  We hope that you will find the information you need here but if we’ve left anything out, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

At this school we are determined to give each child a fantastic education in the fullest sense, and as such we place great store on recruiting only the best teachers for them.  Our staff are a very cohesive and happy group who are mutually supportive both personally and professionally.  Our teachers make a tremendous commitment to the mission and vision of the school and work together to provide the best possible teaching and learning plus an exciting extra-curricular life for the children.  In doing so we have fun too and staff here regularly take part in cooking classes after school; book groups; choirs and even the occasional staff Pantomime in which the actors are the staff and the production is done by the students.

Our relationships with students are excellent and our lessons are characterised by real engagement and hard work.  Our campus is now an elegant, state of the art school, likened by many to be more like a university than a school in appearance, facilities and the pride and care that students take in their environment.  The facilities are tremendous and include a classroom for every teacher; a magnificent Library; great Sports facilities and a beautiful Auditorium in the St Cecilia’s Performing Arts Centre – come and see for yourself!

If you like the sound of all of this, we would love to meet you!

If you would like to make an informal visit prior to application, you will be warmly welcomed.  Alternatively, the relevant Curriculum Leader will be happy to talk to you by telephone.
