We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Principal Pastoral Care and Personal Development  to join our support team from September 2021. 

OVERVIEW OF THE JOB 

The post of Assistant Principal Pastoral Care and Personal Development is a senior position and forms part of the Senior Leadership Team at the College. The purpose of the role is to lead and manage the provision of all aspects of the personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of students; their welfare, health and safety, as well as playing a crucial role in wholeschool strategy and development. The post holder will have the ability to manage all aspects of how the College delivers and facilitates the personal development of students. This will require the capacity to lead middle leaders and frontline staff, for whom the pastoral care and personal development of students is an additional role to their teaching commitments. The post holder will also need to have the ability to influence and motivate across functions within the College. You will be directly responsible and accountable for the College’s Inspection performance against the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate’s criteria for Personal Development. You will ensure that the College complies with the Independent Schools’ Statutory Regulations (ISSRs) Part 1, as it relates to Personal Development, Parts 2 and 3, NMS part 3, and any other relevant legislation. 

REPORTS TO 

You will be directly responsible to the Principal and will work within the framework set by the Principal and under the guidance of the Vice Principal. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB 

The following gives a guide to the main tasks and the scope of the role. These aren’t exhaustive and may vary where necessary to suit the skill set of the post holder and the needs of the College. You should carry out your role to support the needs of the students you work with and the College in general. In as much, you will: 

IN RESPECT OF COMPLIANCE WITH STATUTORY REGULATIONS: 

▪ You will be directly responsible and accountable for the College’s Inspection performance against the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate’s criteria for Personal Development.

▪ Ensure that the College complies with the Independent Schools’ Statutory Regulations (ISSRs) Part 1, as it relates to Personal Development, Parts 2 and 3, NMS part 3 and any other relevant legislation 

▪ Ensure that the College complies with its statutory duty of care obligations for under 18 students 

▪ With other members of the College’s Senior Leadership Team oversee the creation and maintenance of all policies, risk assessments and other documents 

IN RESPECT OF STAFF:

 ▪ Lead the academic pastoral and personal development organisations within the College 

▪ Contribute to the line management of those with roles within academic pastoral care and student personal development. 

▪ Line manage the Head of PE and Activities Coordinator 

▪ Line manage the Additional Learning Support Co-ordinator 

▪ Line manage the College Student Counsellor and Designated Safeguarding Lead

▪ Ensure that Heads of Year successfully enact the College’s policies including behaviour, attendance (including ensuring management of Stage Warnings) and rewards 

▪ Ensure effective reporting to and communication with parents, guardians, agents and sales staff in accordance with College policies and procedures 

▪ Liaise closely with Welfare, Boarding, Operations and Academic Members of the SLT and MLT 

▪ Liaise with Heads of Departments to monitor students’ academic performance and agree intervention as needed 

▪ Ensure liaison between Heads of Year and boarding staff over matters of student behaviour both to ensure their adherence to College rules and that they maintain academic focus 

▪ Lead the delivery of new initiatives which are implemented by all HoYs and support the delivery of new initiatives by individual Heads of Year 

▪ Lead the planning and delivery of the College’s personal development provision, including the College’s programme for trips, visits and activities PSHE programme, directing the activities of other staff involved as required 

IN RESPECT OF STUDENTS 

▪ Ensure that the College’s students receive a high level of both care and discipline at all times 

▪ Take action as needed to support, care for and ensure the safety of students who are not resident in College accommodation 

▪ Manage, and where required participate in, the investigation and monitoring of consequences for reported cases of serious misbehaviour and breaches of College boarding and welfare rules by students 

▪ Investigate complaints and concerns from students and report findings of all investigations to appropriate staff and record the outcome accurately and comprehensively 

▪ Participate in the student induction process including the arrivals weekends 

IN RESPECT OF STAKEHOLDERS:

▪ Attend and contribute to Senior Leadership Team or cross-College meetings as required

▪ Chair the Programmes of Study meetings, inviting the relevant members of the SLT and MLT and when needed external subject matter experts. 

▪ Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders, particularly Heads of Year, the Student Services Teams, Boarding, the Operations Team, parents and agents to ensure effective communication both within and beyond the College

Bosworth Independent School has a range of different subjects on the curriculum. This includes crafts, go karting, English and tennis. The school hopes to give the best education to all the students. Teachers give care and support to every pupil when they need it the most, throughout their time at the school. Students should enjoy their time at the establishment and participate in every possible activity that is presented to them. They are taught to work as a team with other pupils, with the aim of helping them develop the necessary skills for life in the workplace.
