Who are we?

Severndale Specialist Academy is a multi-site special school incorporating our Monkmoor campus, provision within a local mainstream secondary school and a purpose built 16-25 year old provision at our local college.   We work with young people with special educational needs from within Shropshire and beyond. Our children and young people can access Severndale Specialist Academy from reception age through to Sixth Form age and have a range of learning, physical and mobility difficulties and some pupils require personal care.   Supporting communication and enabling independence is a key focus of our work .

What is the purpose of the role:

Severndale Academy is looking to appoint an existing excellent practitioner to join our talented Senior Leadership team at Assistant Principal level. We are a new team that are continually developing at pace to achieve our aim of being a national leader in SEND education. We are looking for a leader who has a genuine desire and drive to change the SEND landscape, particularly in its approach to education in Shropshire and beyond. Severndale is a truly unique special school and is one of the largest special schools in the country. We are proud to be able to meet the needs of over 430 young people across all abilities of the SEND spectrum and across three different sites. Severndale is also proud to be part of The Learning Community Trust, a truly inclusive multi academy trust based in Telford.

This really is one of the most exciting times to join Severndale as we begin our consolidation of our new diversity led curriculum and have a team of staff who are keen to develop and move Severndale forward. We are looking for an experienced SEN leader who can ensure that our provision is individualised to pupil needs. This role will have a specific focus on ensuring that EHCP targets are met and that Severndale provision is strategically planned to ensure all pupils progress.

Our ethos and culture are clear in that every member of our team are focused on working together to ensure our pupils receive the absolute very best. We invest in quality CPD for all of our staff teams and are always looking to further our provision and enable our young people to receive the best.

The Learning Community Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children and young people. All post holders are subject to an enhanced DBS check (including a check on the children’s barred list) for the successful applicant. References will be checked following the Learning Community Trust recruitment and selection process. Severndale Specialist Academy caters for children and young people from 3-25 years old. We are a large special school with over 400 pupils and students on role.

We cater for a wide variety of needs from PMLD to MLD, on three separate sites; our main site, an MLD base at a mainstream high school, and provision at Shrewsbury College, our local FE College.

We have excellent facilities, a dedicated and well-trained staff group and very good links with a wide range of agencies. We are extremely well supported by our parents and carers.

In short Severndale Specialist Academy is a professionally challenging but hugely rewarding place to work.
