Job overview
Assistant Principal Vacancy
Director of Post 16 Learning
Required for September 2025
Leadership Scale 12 – 16
In partnership with the Archdiocese of Birmingham, the Lumen Christi Board of Directors and School Standards Committee of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, we are seeking to appoint an Assistant Principal for September 2025.
St Thomas Aquinas is a large and thriving Catholic comprehensive school in the south of Birmingham. Along with eight local primary schools, it is part of a growing Catholic Multi Academy. The Catholic Schools Inspectorate judged the school to be ‘Outstanding’ in all areas and the school has very recently been through another successful Ofsted inspection. GCSE results in summer 2024 were in the top 10% of all schools and colleges nationally. This is a school very much ‘on the up’ and we are increasingly oversubscribed as a result.
The person appointed will lead and manage post 16 provision across the school. Driven by a passion for young people and social justice, they will believe that any student can progress to a university of their choice if they are willing to work hard enough. They will have an expert knowledge of programmes of study and the 16-18 educational landscape. The successful candidate will use all their leadership experience of securing outstanding academic outcomes to strategically grow the Sixth Form whilst also raising attainment over the next three years.
All of this will be in line with the Catholic values and beliefs that are the bedrock of our school. Their faith will provide the inspiration and direction for all that happens in the Sixth Form. They will bring energy, integrity and drive and undoubtedly be a prime candidate for deputy headship in years to come.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the right candidate to make a huge contribution in a major Catholic comprehensive school.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to informally meet the Principal beforehand.
Closing date for applications is 9am on Friday 7th March 2025.
Interviews are provisionally scheduled to take place on Thursday 13th March 2025.

Values and Vision
St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School’s mission statement is: ‘Christ is at the centre of our school community where we live, love and learn together’. It is a place where staff and students from all faiths live out the school mission. Leaders, teacher and governors share a vision of a holistic education and seek to develop committed learners and exceptional people.
St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School is unapologetically ambitious for the children we serve. The school pursues a knowledge-based approach; that is, the highest standards of behaviour and academic challenge for all regardless of background. In November 2018 the school was judged to be 'Good' by OFSTED. The next phase of development is to be a truly great Catholic school.
