RGS Worcester is looking for a part-time assistant rowing coach on a fixed contract for the 2019-20 academic year. This is an opportunity for a recent graduate, current undergraduate, or rowing coach working towards Level 2, to gain valuable experience in a school setting.
Rowing at RGS Worcester is offered to boys and girls as a Games option (from Year Nine J14) to Sixth Form. There are around 80 rowers and 6.5k of rowable water on the River Severn in Worcester. The boat fleet is being upgraded with significant investment in equipment in recent years.
The hours are: Saturday 10am-4.30pm and Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 1.30-6pm. The candidate would also be expected to attend rowing fixtures during the academic year, occasional holiday training days / rowing camps. The role may be split if candidates cannot fulfil all four days.
Role: To work closely with the Head of Rowing and the lead coaches to deliver high quality rowing coaching to boys and girls age J14-18. Provide support to the coaching team at rowing fixtures and events. Assist with the delivery of land training sessions in the school’s well-equipped fitness suite and sports halls.
Requirements: Experience of rowing and sculling. Understanding of British Sculling / Rowing Stroke and technical drills and skills. Some coaching experience is preferable but full training will be given.
Start date: September 2019.
Salary: The post is on a fixed contract with salary negotiable and appropriate to the experience of the successful candidate(s).
