The School

Merchant Taylors’ School is a large Independent Boys’ School, situated in 286 acres of parkland in Northwood, Middlesex.  The School was founded in 1561, is owned by the Merchant Taylors’ Educational Trust and moved to its present site in 1933. There are four distinct boys’ day schools on campus. The Nursery, the Pre-Prep & the Prep cater for 340 boys, while the Senior School has some 930 pupils. The School employs over 140 teachers and 160 Support staff across Merchant Taylors’ School.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• To support and deputise for the Head Master’s Secretary when necessary

• Co-ordinating and arranging meetings in the Head Master’s diary.

• Answering the Head Master’s telephone calls and taking appropriate action. 

• Manage correspondence with parents and governors regarding events led by the Head Master’s Office.

• Issue and manage invitations to School events and liaising with Heads of the relevant departments.

• Support pupil administration including commendations and meetings with the Head Master.

• Co-ordinate Cups and Trophies Assemblies for the Head Master.

• Send invitations to Parents for Lower, Middle and Upper School Q&A Sessions and related administration.

• Arrange lunches with the Head Master and newly elected JCR members.

• Complete MTET forms for Company Prizes and arrange for funds to be distributed to Prize Winners. 

• Administrative support to the Risk Management Committee.

• Organise the arrangements for recipients of Company Prizes at St Barnabas Day, liaising with Clerk to the Company and the Education Officer at the Merchant Taylors’ Company.

• Send out electronic whole school mailings from the HM’s Office.

• Arrange Scholars’ Tutorial meetings with the Head Master.

• Liaise with the Director of Scholarship and prepare letters to Parents for the internal Scholarship Promotions.

• Send out invitations and co-ordinate replies for the Scholars’ Dinner.

• Send termly reports to the Acworth Foundation for nominated pupils

• Travel Awards administration.

• Arrange for New Heads of Prep Schools to tour MTS and meet with the Registrar and the Head Master.

• Source a design for the Head Master’s Christmas card, liaising with the Print Room, then distribute to various groups of recipients, including Governors, Members of the Court, Non-Court members and staff

• Inform Herts CC and local authority of pupil leavers’ address and where they are continuing their education.

• Liaise with teaching staff to collate information required by the Head Master. 

• Filing and record keeping of pupil documentation.

• Other administrative tasks as required by the Head Master.
