An opportunity has arisen for a passionate and enthusiastic Assistant Subject Lead in English and Literacy to join the team at Laurus Ryecroft. You will facilitate and encourage learning which enables students to achieve high standards, to share and support the corporate responsibility for the well-being, education and discipline of all students.

We are looking for an individual who:

  • Has excellent and demonstrable subject knowledge and can deliver high quality teaching and learning across all Key Stages
  • Inspires students to strive for excellence and is committed to our ethos that we do ‘whatever it takes’ to ensure that all students achieve their potential

About Us

The Laurus Trust is a highly successful and growing multi-academy trust in the North West of England. Laurus Ryecroft is a secondary free school which opened in September 2018 in Tameside for 150 year 7 students, growing year on year to full capacity of 1050 students and 300 sixth form students. The school replicates the outstanding provision offered by the Laurus Trust founding school Cheadle Hulme High School.

All our Laurus Schools are hugely oversubscribed and have a reputation, both locally and further afield, for outstanding teaching and learning through the relentless pursuit of excellence and the determination to ensure that every child succeeds. In the recent Staff Engagement Survey, over 95% of our employees stated that they would recommend working for Laurus Trust to their friends. In 2020/21 our average teacher turnover rate for secondary schools was 2.39%, which falls way below the National Average of 15%.

Laurus Ryecroft is an oversubscribed secondary school for 11 to 18-year-old students in Tameside. In our very first Ofsted inspection in January 2023, Laurus Ryecroft was judged Outstanding in every category.

The school is run by the Laurus Trust and replicates the outstanding education offered by the Trust’s founder school, Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS), based in Stockport. CHHS is a hugely oversubscribed school and has been named as one of the UK’s top-performing schools in The Sunday Times, ranking as the 15th non-denominational comprehensive school in Manchester and the North West in the annual Parent Power Survey for 2022.

Laurus Ryecroft is a non-selective, non-denominational free school. It opened in September 2018 and we moved into our new school building with access to state-of-the-art facilities in 2020.  We now have students in years 7 – 12. With the sixth form opening in September 2023.  We currently have a total of 1070 students on roll.

Laurus Ryecroft is a vibrant, warm and exciting place to work and learn in. We are proud to be ‘Unashamedly Academic’ and have the highest aspirations for all of our students. Our Cornerstones – Academic Aspiration; Culture Creativity and Rhetoric; Leadership and Service; Competition and Physical Endeavour – detail how we develop and prepare our students to acquire the knowledge and develop the qualities which will open the door to the future of their choice.

In 2023, 73% of our students achieved grades 9-4 in English and Maths and over half gained a 5 or above in English and Maths.
